I may be wrong here but I think you've used some clever processing,  lighting in the window, on the front of the cottage and  on the wet foreground to make a stellar image out of  what  maybe was more ordinary originally... Or I may be completely  wrong and  you were in the right place at the right moment to capture this .... whatever  the answer John,  I absolutely love this .....and could not disagree more  with Leon ...sorry .. I think the person and her dog (  and the caption )are imperative to the  image ...  ...Of course ... it's just my opinion.

I love a photograph that looks like the opening paragraph of a short story and this absolutely does!

"It was a dark and stormy night..."

More seriously: I'm not really a people photographer myself, but I agree that the woman and her dog make the picture -- without them it's a rather ho-hum shot of the bridge and house.

I love the....Film-Noir.....look of this shot, very atmospheric, with a story to tell....one that the viewer can decide themselves.

Just what or who is awaiting her behind that brightly lit window?

Thanks all for the comments.  It needed a light in the window to provide a stop to the story.  Otherwise, from memory,  it was just an early evening shot that I darkened slightly.

Leon, not necessarily.  Sometimes shots can look a little sterile without some people interest but people can also be a distraction.  I just tend to go with what I feel, which of course, isn't always right.   <sodemoji.1f644></sodemoji.1f644>
