Really well composed image for me this is John    Smashing tones and the  glassy water in the foreground  looks really ....wet ...

Looks like a setting sun  so intrigued to know what the colour version was like too ....

Yup I agree... I thought there may have been some delicious colours in the sky that may  have lured you to use the colour version  but  the  mono is the right choice here  in my opinion. I do like  to see the original   images though  as I think it  help us to appreciate  what can be achieved with judicious  editing  and processing ...   Good job there  John ..  The Graphic  version reminded me of  one of those 1950s holiday posters we used to see in railway stations ...  made me feel quite nostalgic.:yes

I also agree that mono was the way to go. When I first got my DSLR, I only went out when it was sunny, but I soon learnt that bright blue skies are really boring, I think you've got the right amount of drama with your processing for this shot.

Thanks all for the comments.  I came to the same conclusion after living with the mono for a while.  The manipulated version is over the top and loses the recession in the hills.  I've had another go at it since posting the image and I'm happier with this version:
