Parrots feeding in the Capeweed

These parrots are called Red-Rumped Parrots, or Grass parrots, by locals. Their red rumps are not visible here, of course. They were feeding in the Cape-weed between the headstones at the rural cemetery near here. I was waiting for the Rainbow Bee-Eaters to arrive from far North to nest in their burrows in the sandy soil  of the Cemetery. No sign of them yet.....

Thats a good close up, I didnt manage to get near one when i was there, they took off before I could get a decent shot, hope your emerging summer is a good one for you.

Nice one Cheryl, don't know if  I'll see Red Rumps down where I am now, but used to love seeing them.

Thanks Dierdre, When I was a kid, we didn’t pay them much attention, they were just Grass Parrots... nothing special. It was only when I took up bird photography and could see their gorgeous coloured feathers up close that I came to appreciate them.

Very colourful looking birds, don't get to see many parrots unless in a zoo, I know there are Green Parakeets in the south of England that have escaped over the years.

So that's what I saw flying over Hampton Court.

Apparently the legend is that Jimi Hendrix released several Green Parakeets in the 60's.....
