Native Australian Cockroach

I’m advised by one of the biodiversity guys in this locale that this is a native cockroach.

No matter how good the photograph is….for some reason you just cannot warm to something called a cockroach  can you it does look very different to to our native cockroach though…

I have only ever seen them on photos  ... or on tv in that  programme about celebrities in the jungle in Australia ! ... Disgusting creatures that  harbour bacteria  and can live for 100 days without food but only a couple of days without water ... it's hard to destroy them too ....apparently  soapy water sprayed on them suffocates them but insect sprays are ineffective. Maybe  your variety are harmless Cheryl !

They're typically native of warmer climes than ours. I used to get one species (I don't recall which, but they weren't as colourful as yours) when working in San Diego back in the late '80's.

Apparently we have over 550 different cockroaches indigenous to Australia. There are six different cockroaches that are pests that spread bacteria, as you were referring to, Clicker, and only two of them are indigenous to Australia. This is new to me as I thought only the introduced ones were pests.
