G'day from OZ

Recommended Posts

Hi there from across the sea in Australia. I was directed here by a friend on another site.

I was told that this place was nice and friendly, and that there were lots of things to learn - so that's good.

I am a hobby photographer, I belong to a local club and I enjoy 'little and friendly' competitions. When I grow up I want to be able to take award winning photos.

Looking forward to snooping around the threads and become more familiar with my way around.

Thanks Fuji, but you must realise that we are approaching winter here, so the barbie has been put away and the log fire is burning

Welcome aboard Phoenix.... it's  a place full of characters who all see the world  differently....who one can be inspired by  and learn from  in varying measures, and usually it's all done with good humour.

Do you have a particular  preference  when it comes to  taking photographs... Portraits Landscapes Macro etc?... We have a few people who specialise and are very  generous with their help  so do have fun  and enjoy .

thanks Clicker, I don't have one particular genre, but I do a bit of black & white, I love street stuff and a little contemporary (the stuff that doesn't fit in anywhere else). I notice that there is no section for 'street' so will assume that fits into urban and architecture, and it would be nice to see a contemporary option.

Also there are no instructions in the thread that's called 'image posting guidelines'. Is there a size limit or has this information been located somewhere else?

Welcome to the forums Phoenix, good to have you onboard. Phil is probably the man to ask about images sizes, I ususally keeo the file sze to less the 400k and not bigger than 1200 pixels on the longest length - but I host my images offsite, it may be different if you use the gallery facility on the forum.

Hi, again Pheonix.....

pic size for posting on TIPF....this is how I do it.

After processing a chosen pic, then saved in preferred format........make a copy, resize that to 1024 mp longest side then save as a JPEG.

To post, use the .......Click to choose files ......option next to the paper clip lower LHS of the text box...

It's 1024 pixels on the longest side - you can post larger but then people might have to scroll to see 'the whole picture'. The size limit has recently been raised to 500k per post.

that's an interesting thought Miss C, I'll lurk for a while and see what happens here first. Is there a reason there is no comps? No one thought of it? No-one wanted it?

There are - there's a POTW every Sunday, but all the others are in abeyance as we just had a major change in forum software. They will be back but Phil is your man to advise.
