POTW - Week Ending 28/4/2019
It's my turn to choose POTW again.  As always, there have been plenty of good images to choose from.
Honourable mentions go to:
Johntwo for "A World of Their Own" - a great piece of street photography.
The Longman for "Blue Harbour" - a superb demonstration of how an ordinary scene can be transformed by effective use of Photoshop.
and Stravinsky for "Lake Wanaka" - a beautiful landscape with great light and composition.

But my choice for this week is "Zooooom" by Black Pearl - taking us on a surreal trip along the "Road to Hell":

Good luck.

Another great week for images and another week when it's been so flippin' difficult to choose a POTW.

Top toggers for me this week were........

Fuji with his superb 'You Are Invited' - Street photography at its best.

ChorleyJeff with 'Buttermere Trees' - A beautifully simple landscape.

Ryewolf with 'Church Steeple' - A lovely painterly image that shows off Rye's Topaz skills.

All these could have been winners were it not for Johntwo's superb photograph 'Scotsman at Speed'. Great technique, great processing, great presentation and then a great dollop of nostalgia to boot. Congrats, John, that really is a belter.

POTW Week Ending 14/4/2019
Another week  with an array of images to  choose The Picture Of The Week from. ... It's surprisingly difficult to do too. Some laudable  entries include  landscapes from Rye with sheep and sunsets  and Stravinski with some stunning views taken on his trip to New Zealand;   Johntwo's Breakfast Table bloom was a still life  taken from the mundane  but seen with a creative eye as was Fuji's Image  of the  discarded ashtray contents on the flowers...Vanguards  phone image of the Cambridge University architecture  was equally impressive .....

I have chosen my winning  image   because it is a really good example of  making something out of  almost nothing  ... Many may not have noticed the image that presented itself here  to the photographer because looking and seeing are very different  skills  so hats off to CMunzel ...Cheryl  for   her Door Castlemaine.  I love textures and  writing in images and peeling paint  and  pictures that make you ask questions ... so Well done  Cheryl      for spotting and composing  a fabulous image  from the mundane .

POTW - w/e 30/3/2019
Another nice week to browse through an interesting assortment of pictures. It seems you are certainly getting signs of Spring, with blossom, ladybirds, a hover fly and now daffodils popping up, Ryewolf has given us a look at more nice birds, and lovely Red Squirrels, Fuji is obviously enjoying his street photography and giving us some interesting results to look at, Stravinsky is giving us a nice look at bits of New Zealand and the perspective of johntwo's  Olympic Bridge shots were fascinating - what a bridge!

Browsing through the Landscape section there are some very nice sunset pictures but one of them stood out for me. The sky colour in this image is superb and the clouds add interest and contrast to the colour as well. The general composition is great with the lighthouse looking at the same level as the distant sea level, I would love to make my way up that path up to the top, and the light giving texture to the water close to the shore also adds something to the image as a whole. There is certainly some 'wow' factor in this one!

So well done John, this one is a beauty!!

POTW - Week Ending 24/3/2019
It's my turn for POTW again, and as before there have been plenty of really good images to choose from.

The "honourable mentions" this week both go to Clicker for:
'Stoney Faced':

and
'My First Ever Murmuration':

But my choice for POTW is this brilliant piece of street photography: "City Unity" by Fuji:

POTW - w/e 17/03/19
It's been a relatively quiet week on the forum, but all the same it's been difficult to choose just one image to be POTW. Although we're a small forum, I'm constantly amazed at the quality of work we get posted, so with that in mind I'm going to go for two special mentions as well as the POTW.

First mention goes to Ryewolf for the superb shot he titled 'A Forest Path' - great processing that produced a very atmospheric image.

Mention two goes to Black Pearl for his set of photographs 'Mono Falls' Excellent work that I enjoyed very much. Who wouldn't enjoy these?

However, my POTW goes to Brian for his 'Spinning Top' image. It's a little bit quirky and it's a little imperfect, but the colours are a delight and the the blur on the top works brilliantly with the OOF background to make for a very compelling image. In my view a very worthy POTW.

Well done, Brian!

POTW - Week ending 10/03/2019
It's always difficult to pick just one image, especially when there's such a great variety to choose from. There was a great close up from Brian and his new toy, plenty of birds from John and Mike. There's also been some interesting landscapes from Denis and as ever FUJI has provided lots of great character shots.

However, this one set I've been back and viewed several times from the mono category. I liked them not because they were mono conversions but because they were actually shot on B/W film, James is one of the few members, in fact maybe the only member, that regularly shots on film using all sorts of weird and wonderful cameras and film stock.

So this shot from Letcombe Brook is my choice for POTW

POTW Week Ending 3rd March 2019
Wow ....what a difficult week to pick a winner with some really outstanding efforts by members ... BP   returns like the prodigal son and stuns us with every dam image .... The decisive moment  is a once in a blue moon event , and the panorama  stitched together  is a testament to his  skills with the camera and photoshop ; Stravinsky posted a surreal  image of the Odeon Birmingham; a really innovative  take on  urban landscape ; Korks  posted three belters  with Evening shadows so simple in it's execution  but captivating because of it  and Fooj made me laugh out loud with his Horse box  but in the end I am going with Johntwo's  Off the bend  because of the sheer quality  of the  image  which as Korks said absolutely screams quality. . Such an impressive capture John ....A superb photo ...

Weekly Challenge 189 - OPEN THEME - Voting Closed
Thought I'd go for an open theme for this weeks challenge. Two reasons.......

1 - I'm a bit rubbish at coming up with themes and I've spent all morning trying to think o' summat and failed miserably.

2 - I thought a free-for-all might encourage more people to join in by having a week when you can post owt ya got. Go for it and show us yer finest!

All entries to be posted by midnight GMT on Friday 22nd February  and then we'll have a vote to pick a winner.

Images can be shot for the contest or be from your archives. Entirely up to you!

Not the easiest week to pick only one again, but that's nice that we have quite a lot of potential choice shots.

There has been some lovely bird photography - ducks, cranes, kingfishers, kites and even a flamingo, good work all who put these posts up!

Some very nice images in the Mono thread, and Clicker's 'Having a Breather' came seriously into consideration too - nice!

Then, as I popped in to do this task I saw a whole new post by Black Pearl. This set includes everything we expect from BP's coastline shots - waves, rocks, a lighthouse, nice clouds and lovely coloured skies, great composition and very atmospheric ones with the fog too, and a great night shot as well.

Several in this set are very nice, but I've gone with one that really appealed to my eye, love the simplicity and composition of the scene, the subtle colours. cloud over the rock and the nice sun rays, the smooth reflection in the water and the 'soft soggy look' of the sand around it.

This whole set is well worth a look - and welcome back BP, lovely to see your classic type of pictures again, well done!

Weekly Challenge #188 - Parallel Lines- Voting Closed
So this week we are looking for some parallel lines - it could be something simple and symmetrical, or something where you have seen the parallels as part of a bigger picture, and perhaps given it an artistic tweek.

Anything, everything, old or new as long as we can see some parallel lines in there.

Will be open for entries until midnight Friday 15th Feb, your time. Go and see what you can find.

Now open for voting until next Friday, good luck!

Here we go.... my first attempt at picking the POTW!  It's hard, isn't it?
There have been plenty of excellent images to choose from... but I managed to narrow it down to five, before finally picking one.

So... honourable mentions go to:
Paul for his excellent macro of a ladybird (#2 in this thread: http://www.tipf.co.uk/forums/topic/21911-ladybird/ )
Paul again for his Nasty Weevil (#3 in this thread: http://www.tipf.co.uk/forums/topic/21918-nasty-weevil/ )
RogerW for his Kingfisher (#1 in this thread: http://www.tipf.co.uk/forums/topic/21922-siskin-and-kingfisher/  )
Fuji for his wonderfully quirky "Two Faced": (http://www.tipf.co.uk/forums/topic/21890-two-faced/ )

But my choice for this week's winner is Johntwo's "Arrivals & Departures":

The low viewpoint, wide angle, bright colours and really effective composition made this the stand-out image of the week for me.
The original thread is here: http://www.tipf.co.uk/forums/topic/21932-arrivals-and-departures/

Well done, John!

Weekly Challenge #187 ~ NICKNAMES ~ Voting Closed
For this weeks challenge I would like you come up with a picture that is related to the nickname used by one of the many British football teams.

The encyclopedic website should help you if you need the list of teams and their nicknames, you have well over 100 to choose from. There are plenty of obvious ones like the birdy ones but there are also plenty to challenge you if you should so desire.

Usual rules apply pictures can be new or archive images and entry submission closes at midnight 8th February.

Good Luck.

I'd quite forgotten just how tricky choosing POTW can be. Especially when there is such a superb crop of images as there has been over the last seven days.

Johntwo's 'Lindisfarne Boat Hulls' gets a very honourable mention for its superb processing.

Longman's 'Misty Morning Sunrise' gets likewise - beautifully atmospheric, beautifully processed.

RogerW's 'Nuthatch' shots also get a massive thumbs-up, as do NikonMikes' swan images. Top stuff!

They were all serious contenders, but.........

In the end, I went for an image that came up on the rails at the last minute and really twanged my braces with its detail, its composition and its lovely simplicity. I've chosen Leon's 'Robin' as my POTW.

Well done, Leon - that one's a real belter.

There was some tough competition  this week...  I mean really  tough ... Roger opened the batting with a really  outstanding couple of Waxwing photos ... I  really  loved Korky's understated but inimitable rendition of  Just Leaves, and Johntwo's 'Day's work s done was beautifully processed. . Simon's Symmetry was really eyecatching and Nikonmike's  Still Life  grabbed my attention too. After  a long time looking  I had three images that I  just  could hardly choose between  and all were from Denis ...One  of a  Kingfisher and the two of a longtailed tit  so..POTW   is  .this one of the Kingfisher ...  and I have to admit  I have been influenced by the back story. I can tell just how thrilled Denis is with this rare capture of  this elusive  beauty .Well done Denis ... a reward for your patience out there ...

POTW - Week ending 27/01/2019
Well, it's been nice to see the forum busy again, with a wide range of images across many categories.

In macro and close-up we had Kobione's massive spider and Paul's Opilione (Harvestman). There were plenty of birds from Roger, Bill, Denis and JamesT. There was a nice crop of landscapes from David from the Leeds/Liverpool canal, Morton Castle at night from Scott, a very atmospheric Loch Lomond from The Longman and a very cold looking Hunstanton from Vanguard. FUJI provided some excellent street photography as usual and there were excellent images from John of the Fredriks Kirke in Copenhagen, elsewhere we had some great monochromes from Vanguard and Clicker.

However, there were a set of images that drew me back, they were quirky, innovative, expertly composed and made me smile and far too good to be in The Just For Fun section. It was difficult to choose just the one:

The original post can be found here:

So congratulations to Brian

Also a honourable mention to Simon's (SJR) Craig's Super Wolf Blood Moon that made everyone smile.
