Hi from Margate, Kent. I have been working at learning photography for about 4 years now. I am a Nikon girl and shoot mainly macro/close-ups but also enjoy birding and most other genres except portraiture which doesn't interest me at all. I am retired and enjoy walking the dog with a camera either in the countryside or the beach. Besides that I just do regular things like tending the house and garden. I am impressed with the images I have seen posted on this forum and look forward to learning and taking part in the groups.

Hello Brenda ... .. Welcome to the forum ... I expect you have been loitering for a little while before taking the plunge like many of us did ...  I was down in Margate last year as  I was visiting a friend in Ramsgate . I recall there was a a big fuss about regenerating the town as a seaside tourist spot by reviving that big Rollercoaster  there ...  Then I never heard any more about it ... Anyway ... I'm off on a tangent .. ;)  you'll find this a friendly forum  where  we have a few laughs and genuinely try to help and learn from each other ... If you have any problem or need help ... Just yell ..

Thank you Polly.  Actually, I haven't looked before today but am already enjoying the experience. In Margate Dreamland is still struggling and now has some more financial input to help it survive. I remember going there when I was a kid but haven't been there since.  Brenda

Hi Brenda welcome along. I have some really fond memories of Margate - Dreamland, The Golden Garter Saloon (Cliffton Ville) nice to read they are putting money back into that stretch of coast. Looking forward to seeing your photos.

Hi, BRENDA, welcome to the TIPF community.....yep! They're all eccentric except me.

It will be great to have another macro shooter on here, Paul will be delighted.....I dabble, when I remember to dig all the relevant gear out.

Thank you all for such a lovely welcome.

Colinb, you take me back with your comment about the Golden Garter Saloon in Cliftonville. As a child my parents and I spent some holidays in Cliftonville and sometimes visited this show on the promenade. It was a fun show. The building is still there but it is all closed down and looking very sad. Cliftonville is not the place it used to be. We have recently moved back to this area after 40 years living in Gloucester/Bristol area and also 10 years in Alicante, Spain.

Ahhhhhhhh, Margate. That brings back memories........ Jellied eels, pie an' mash, frills an' spills, wacky Woodbines on the pier and Chas 'n' Dave on my Walkman. Them were the days!

Young folk today know nowt!

Hi Korky, the jellied eel stall is still on the harbour ramp and owned by the same family. I don't remember wacky Woodbines though and the pier is gone, destroyed in a gale. I did have a Walkman though. Happy days.

Brenda........I can visualize our esteemed but totally nutty Korky, strolling, or was it strutting along the Prom in his Hawaiian shirt and with check Flares flapping around his ankles.......apparently he used to attempt to wink at all of the lasses, but both his eyes closed at the same time.....he has bruises to prove it.   Ah Bless!

FUJI........exits stage right......awaiting return brickbats from said Korky...

Brenda - Maybe if I'd used the term 'Woodstock Woodbines' - would that have meant anything? Ya know....... the old roll 'em ups with a sprinkle of magic dust. Ya know, ya know!

Fooj - I cut quite a dash on Margate Pier, the flares did flap around my ankles, but they were skin-tight where it mattered and the banana down my trouser leg got me arrested four times.
