  1. Jim Nix is someone I follow on YouTube, I like his tutorials and and I like his relaxed manner and I like his photography. So here's one of Jim's Vlogs where he talks about sharing work and overcoming the fear or criticism. The video is a little dark in places (it was filmed at dusk in Seattle), but it's the words that matter. It's well worth five minutes of your time. I'm currently working on an image that will be called 'Backbone' and it's not the kind of thing I would normally post here. But after watching Jim's video, it might well make an appearance. Korky
  2. Thanks, Gareth, this really has made my morning. Especially in a week when some really top notch images have been posted. I spent Saturday night and Sunday morning taking explosive medication in preparation for a colonoscopy at hospital on Sunday afternoon. My weekend has been downright chuffin' miserable, but......... This morning the sun is shining, I can eat and drink as normal and I have POTW - I think I might break into song. Korky
  3. 4Gb Radeon Pro graphics in my MacBook - I wonder if the settings in PS are causing a problem. Thanks, Rye, off now to check settings etc. Korky Edit ----- Rye, you're a soddin' genius. I went into the Mac preferences and changed the settings so that the 4Gb graphics card is used all the time. TS2 now whizzes along like an Aston Martin rather than a Morris Minor van. Thanks! Edit 2 ----- It's taken less than ten minutes for me to fall in love with TS2 - I can see a purchase on the horizon. Some of the people who post on YouTube offer a coupon code for Topaz - one is Jim Nix and if you enter the code JIMNIX at checkout, it'll give you an extra 15% off. It takes the price down to $67.99.
  4. I was quite chuffed when I saw Topaz Studio 2 was available - I downloaded and installed the trial version in quick styx, but I'm not really impressed. On my MacBook (a 2.9 GHz Intel i7) it seems to spend a lot of time spinning its little wheel when moving between presets, and after a while it's started to twist my melon. I love the way it looks and the filters are excellent, but that spinning thingy is a soddin' nuisance. The original Studio runs so much smoother and I can't understand why a better version isn't better at all. I'll be giving it another wazz, but I don't think I'll be offering up the plastic for this one. Korky
  5. Excellent! Well done, Craig. Korky

    Hello.

Hello, John, welcome back to the fold - it'd be good to see you posting again. We've had a few changes as you'll discover if you have a nosey around Lots of birds and bugs being posted currently, should be right up your street. Korky
  7. I'll post on Monday - I'll call it The Weekly Caption - and then we'll take it from there. I'd tend to go for a new thread every week, but I'm happy to accept whatever is decided. Steve
  8. Put me down for number three as well - very nice indeed. I love how you've kept this thread going for so long - it's great to browse through from the beginning and take in your talents. Korky
  9. Does this need to be run as a competition? - it just seems OTT to have it running over two weeks. Why not a new pic every Monday and then let folk add captions as they get the notion? I think it'd be more fun that way - ya remember fun don't ya? Like back in the day when all we had to amuse us was a yellow yo-yo and summat that came free in a box of Shreddies. And we all thought it was a hoot to see dad's underpants flappin' on the washing line. Just sayin'. Korky
  10. Well done, Simon - Nice work! Korky
  11. In spite of Interwebular access problems and having to take my MacBook in for repair (not done yet and I'm bereft) , I've managed to make the deadline. Sort of... Nowhere near up to the standard of shots above, but I've managed to post and that'll have to be enough. Chimp
  12. Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't cricket be played by gentlemen in white flannels? With cries of "howzat" and "well played sir" and a break for tea and scones at 4.00pm. Well, that's how the game was played at Greyfriars anyway. Sadly, Bunter never got called to the team, but he was always keen to help out with the cakes and lashings of lemomade. Korkers
  13. A real belter! Well done, Denis. Korky
  14. Welcome back, Bo - good to have you posting again. Korky
  15. I'm clocking 70 too and I often think just how lucky my generation has been - especially when I consider how my parents suffered many years of 'doing without' during and after WW2. Well done, Denis, you should be justifiably proud. Korky

    POTW - w/e 30/06/19

Y'know, I am a soddin' martyr to this forum I am. Y'know why? Eh? Do ya? Well I'll tell ya.......... Kylie is in the middle of her set at Glasto and I'm choosing to miss her fifth outfit change in order to do POTW. Like I said, a soddin' martyr. Cos we have a proper big telly and it's just like being there. Well, as always, we've had some real belters this week....... Rye's train photographs were well up to standard (good to see 'em in colour), Hatter's Cornwall images were right up my street with the Topaz twiddles he so expertly gave them and PanasonicMike's insect pics really were top notch. But there's only one POTW and when Roger posted his image of Barney it absolutely blew my socks off. Metaphorically speaking of course as with this hot weather I've been wafting around the grounds of the manor in nowt but the skimpy shorts and sweaty vest that Matron likes to see me wearing. Ladies and gentlemen of TIPF............. I give you Barney the Barn Owl. Take a bow, Roger, it's a truly superb image. Now, back to the serious stuff......... I should be so lucky - Lucky, lucky, lucky - I should be so lucky in love.............. 17. Good to see you're keeping busy, Denis - we don't want you lozzing around and eating ice cream and sipping G&T. Us retired types will take car of all that stuff! Much looking forward to seeing your memorial photographs. Korky
  18. Scruffy Bear: Tell ya what, Doll, I'm gerrin' very brassed off wi posh nuts up there havin' the best seat in front o' the telly. Doll: Stop flamin' whingin', Scruffs, you've got me to snuggle up to innit? Scruffy Bear: Yeah, there is that.........er.......... I don't suppose there's any chance of a...... Doll: No, there bloody well isn't!
  19. Tough to decide this week, some first class entries! Korky
