  1. Good to see you out taking street photos, Fuji. It’s a challenging genre as the subjects are all people, predominately strangers, who don’t necessarily want to be photographed. Well done.
  2. Hi everyone, Sorry I've been absent from the forum the last few weeks. The planets were all out of alignment for all things photography. Its my turn to choose photo of the week and I note its been a bit quiet on the forum this week. My choice for photo of the week is Rybear's Ceibwr Bay #1 (lucky I don't have to pronounce Ceibwr). What's not to like about this beautiful landscape? It's composition is spot on with the wildflowers in the foreground, the cliffs in the mid ground and horizon and sky in the back ground. Love the colours. Well done, Rybear.
  3. Indeed, I assume the "jumper" is the spider. Great shot, Paul
  4. Agree with Ryewolf. A great set. what a beautiful place. #1 is my favourite.
  5. I like the composition of the send one best. Think I'd increase the contrast. Just my opinion. of course.
  6. Well captured. Reminds me of our Crusader bugs with shield shape on its back.
  7. Beautiful landscape photo, Matt.

Thanks Ryewolf. I’m glad you think it would make a great book cover or film promotion: that’s the look I was after. Yes, our ravens have white eyes as adults (brown as juveniles).
  9. Oh thanks, JohnP. Found it. It’s correct. Must be something else going wrong that I didn’t receive the newsletter. I’ve never received a TIPF newsletter in the years I’ve been a member actually.
  10. Maybe my email address needs updating. How can I check? Couldn’t find it in my account?

Thanks MattGrey, I was only vaguely aware of that poet so looked him up and his poem, The Raven, that Clicker mentioned. Interesting.
  12. I'm loving the increase in postings on the forum, though there's a downside - too many excellent images to choose from for POTW. Makes my life tough....so I'm giving out honourable mentions. I loved JohnP's Robin especially #1. What's not to like? Perfect composition, lovely detail and colour, enjoyed the creativity of MattGrey's, Watching the Sun Go Down, with a snail in the foreground of a seascape, and Lez325's photos of a dragonfly, Almost Like Japanese Art: excellent in detail. I could have chosen any of these photos. I am, however, choosing Liverpool in Reflection as POTW. A stunning cityscape. Well done, Stravinsky!
  13. Thank you for sharing your use of painted backgrounds for your macro subjects. I haven't done it yet but intend to make some for my macro subjects. I've painted background boards for still life and food photography - dark moody backgrounds in particular. Great photos, by the way, especially #4. The colour of the beetle is really enhanced by the pink.
  14. I've only just come across this thread by accident. I didn't receive a newsletter, if that was what should have happened??? Clicker, in answer to your question about outages; I have never experienced an outage (which is kind of ironic given I'm in Australia) I am glad to be having this discussion having been somewhat concerned for a while about the drop off in members posting to the forum. I agree with Dennis that lack of feedback on photos posted is discouraging. We probably need a critical mass of members willing and able to provide constructive feedback: increasing the membership seems a worthwhile aim for that reason. I appreciate MattGrey's suggestion of using social media platforms, like Instagram, to do that, as well as MattGrey's idea of submitting what the community consider their "best" images to Amateur Photographer Magazine. Could we post the Photo Of The Week or choose the a Photo Of The Month (POTM), or some other way of selecting the best images. Personally I really like challenges and benefited from participating in the weekly challenge we had a few years ago. Having committed to posting a photo every week, I had to get creative to take and post a photo every week even when I had no opportunity to take photos of my favourite subjects. I'm a believer in the idea that restrictions support creativity....
  15. Excellent Paul. My knowledge of ladybirds has grown exponentially because of you.
  16. Nice shot with the stem on the diagonal.
  17. Great detail, Les. As someone who has chased plenty of ants around - and they move faster, apparently, when they are warm so are flat out during our summers - I appreciate a photo that captures them in detail.
  18. Great cityscape photo, Stravinsky! Good effort to post it while in the midst of all the upheaval.

So glad I asked! Thanks so much.
  20. I like this image very much. An interesting story, good composition and excellent mono processing.
