An update to my 'slice of life' post..

Remember I told you about the 8 hour wait to get unloaded? well just to show gross stupidity at its best I collected another load  for the same place on Wednesday. Arrived on site and waited five hours. Then told that it was not going to be unloaded again,  so I took the trailer back to the airfield, I did think about parking just outside London and going back after a night in the cab, but for an hours journey, home won easily :)

Returned the next day and sat there for 2 hours behind five Turkish trucks, one of whom had been there since Monday.. remember?  I was then informed that they could not take my load that day either and to return the following day. The boss sighed on the phone and said 'head home mate'. So today I set out at 0545, as according to the contractor who is giving us this work, 'You must be on site at 0800!'

Well, I was there at 0755AM, Three turkish trucks waiting, the Monday one had been unloaded finally, leaving his other compatriots there. Needless to say I got a phone call from the boss after two hours....'I dont know how to tell you this mate, but they are not going to get time to do you today, bring it back, they want it next Tuesday afternoon now!

Needless to say we are billing them £500 for every trip, we worked it out that we could keep taking the same load back and forth for a year and get paid for every trip, easy money for little miles and hardly any diesel costs or wear and tear on the truck...but just a tad boring!

And believe me ....I am bored!

Just to let you know I took the offending trailer load back to that site as requested this afternoon....sat there two hours and came home with it still loaded !

On top of that i got a £65 Fixed penalty notice through the post today from one day last week when I had this same trailer on , I was 18 inches into a hatched box junction when the lights changed, one of Londons friendly junction cameras got me. I have officially had enough after 43 years of this career !

I have arranged a meeting with my pension people for the first week in July, Bugger the last year of work, I'm off at the earliest opportunity

Amazing story! I told my partner about your inability to  get your truck unloaded and he sympathised. He’s been delivering rock to isolated sites where they are filling in irrigation channels & replacing them with underground pipes (an Australian govt initiative to save water lost through seepage & evaporation). He reckoned he’d rather be driving around the middle of nowhere with problems like “sneaky sheep” chewing up the plastic cabling for the water meters.

Such a sad and sorry tale that summarises life today......how would we win a war today with organisation like that...

Your story did remind me of this though.....

Lorry driver to passer by.........

" Is this Lunnon mate ? "

Passer by....

" Yus ! ‘

Lorry driver......

’Av brought yer wood "

? ? ?
