This weeks subject is " One of my best shots "

The date the image was taken is immaterial ..old and new shots are equally acceptable ...

Entries must be posted between Midnight Friday  29 January and Midnight Friday 5th February. Voting to take place from Midnight 5th February to Midnight 12th February.

I usually do the spur of the moment stuff but from time to time I do plan, take my time and put a bit of effort into a shot. 

The lad on the bike is also the one who owns the flashguns, stands and Pocket Wizards which were set up, metered against ambient light and left to do their stuff. The other lad wanted a few shots of a bike rider in mid-air hence the location and the flashes to freeze the motion. I wanted to record the whole shoot in a way that showed what had gone on so set up at one corner, put the camera with a Sigma 10-20mm on a solid tripod and started shooting with manual exposure so all the frames were the same. For the shots of the rider on the jump I had the transmitter you can see on the camera in the middle to make sure he was frozen and nicely lit. After an hour or so of riding, shooting, mucking about and a bit of careful timing I had a card full of files to work with. Black at home and using PS the various elements I wanted were lifted from multiple files and combined into one final image. 

Simples really...

Mine really is a 'spur of the moment' capture, and the one shot that really got me into macro stuff. I spotted the raindrops on a web, and thought it worth a try, and it wasn't until I looked at it on the computer that I saw the way the corrugated iron behind the drops had created the stripes - just pure luck with the light. I loved it, and it really got me started in 'looking for macro', which I still  really enjoy although my quality can't meet some of the posts on here!:

After Dark - An early image of mine. Documentary shot portraying the 'darker side' of nightlife - not everyones cup of tea I imagine however, it's a hard hitting, honest look at what happens (before and) After Dark.....Purposefully gritty and noisy to add to the atmosphere of the shot.

This is one that gave me such a lot of pleasure ... Not a macro like the masters do  on here  but I  had never seen a Common Blue  till John P( who is currently on a sabbatical renovating his new home ) told me to go to Hough Wood outside Hereford to find them ....and I saw 50 or more that day . They are so flighty  but I managed about a hundred shots of which  maybe a couple of  dozen were good enough  for me ... I'm not that fussy ..;)

So  it's one  that has given me a lot of satisfaction and I like the little strands  of spider silk  still visible on the flower ...

I suppose if the were really common everywhere and not so flighty ... we maybe wouldn't feel quite so "triumphant " when we captured a decent one Rye !:jig:

 Well that's how I looked after my excursion to  woods ...so to speak.:laughing:

I 'll go and get the Poll started then ...  8 ENTRIES   all very different  ...  .. thank you to those  for joining in ...  Lovely to  have just another excuse to see your images regardless of the voting. I   thought the  subject meant it was open to all the Genres that some specialise in . Good luck to you all gang.... It looks a tough one  to choose ....do check out the large versions on them too .

 ps ... I have done it as a secret ballot ... just to see if it encourages more people to vote ... Worth a try...

Yup.. Very well  done Dee ... It reminded me of shiny mint humbugs or Everton Mints I used to have as a child . Congratulations  ...   and thanks to everyone for  posting some of your best shots  .... they were all very different  and very interesting.  Thanks also to those  who took the time to vote..

We used to call 'em Humbugs, Polly, and the corners of them were uncomfortable in your mouth until you dissolved them off.
