Well spotted and taken. Why does Fibonacci spring to mind?
-
Thank you. I hummed and aahd about the negative space, but decided to leave it in as I felt it added to the drama of the image.

Congratulations Cheryl, this is just begging for a caption. Good choice Gareth.

Great shot. You can always rely on Scotland for a sky to die for.
-
Congratulations Paul - Good choice Clicker.
-
Did you not consider taking a series of overlapping shots to create a panorama in post processing?

A nice set Geoff I really like the composition and angle of shot with the first image. The inclusion of the foreground foliage really adds to the ambience.
-
Well done Cheryl.

That's exactly my expreience, Van - facebook, twitter and the like are a death knell for dedicated forums. -
Thank you Van, you learn something new every day. I must get my ipad out for an airing and have a look at that.
-
Well that's different. What's destressed when it's at home? The first two are crackers, mainly because of the composition. 1, 2, 3, for me in that order.
-
Umm! Err! Yer but........... No but.......... I can sort of see something hanging, but I'm not sure from what.
-
Ah! I see.
-
Much better, Paul. I can see another genre being added to your repertiore.
-
Now that's not bad at all, for a first attempt. I assume each change of shot is a new video stitched together in post processing? Look up the principles of a storyboard when it comes to videography - I found it very useful to convey a story using images. Other than that - well done! I enjoyed watching the video.

A number of things here. Denis, it's so good to hear from you - I've really missed your input into the forum. So sorry to hear of your loss of Mojo regarding your photography - something that happens to all of us from time to time. Perhaps reaching out to other people with the same problem and airing what's troubling you, (on the forum), would help. I've read with interest the member's views on membership, the dilution of the personal touch this forum has, rightly, gained the reputation for, and the need for fresh faces. While this is primarily a photographic forum, there is an element of social media, I feel, that the members could enjoy - perhaps that is something the management could pursue - maybe a 'hot seat' where somebody volunteers to be grilled by members on their outlook on life, keeping religion and politics aside, that would give a greater insight to their personality, photographic aspirations etc. Any question deemed too sensitive can be ignored!! Just a thought as I have seen this on other forums followed with great interest. Maybe a topical competition/challenge. I have also seen a knock-out competition that would take 2-3 weeks to complete run maybe three times a year that has gone down very well in the past.. I have also seen, with some trepidation, mention of an affiliation with a social media site such as facebook. The last forum I was on adopted this approach and it proved to be the death knell of the forum, as members posted to Facebook in the hope of immediate gratification, rather than post to the forum direct. Maybe an association to a forum such as You Pic might be advantageous, as that deals soley with photography. Just bouncing thoughts about........ Edited to add. Maybe a section for beginners to post to. It seems to me that a 'photo newbie' might be put off with the quality of photography we see on the forum, deterring them from joining as not good enough. -
Congratulations!! I entered the same competition and won diddley squat. Look forward to seing your first shots/video.

Thank you for your insight Clicker - it is hard to know when to stop, isn't it. Darken or increase colour? Hmmm! The choices increase as I think.

When the weather gets warmer, Polly.

Following on regarding turning photos into paintings, two of my sister's dogs - both of the same age and firm friends.

I saw his brother running around a dodgy restaurant the other day. Nice shot.
-
Welcome to the forum. Your history is exactly the same as me - what Nikon camera do you have?
-
This isn't for me, but a friend of my brother. Apparently he has a decades worth of slides to convert to photographs. I fully accept that a flatbed scanner is not the way to go. I have one and scanning any film is merely OK ...ish. (Needs a lot of PP ing). I have been looking at a dedicated scanner for slides, within the mid-range. https://www.magnasonic.com/review/product/list/id/1693/category/63/. The research I have done tells me that this kind of scanner is much of a much-ness across the range, both in design and quality. However, digging deeper, I have found that, although rated high, Kodak is producing the worst reproductions. I can only go by customer reviews and the reviews on you tube - the one posted above gives the best reviews to date. Mind, that said, I get the feeling this guy wants this work done for him on the cheap, (read free), from some cross eyed numpty like me. Like that's going to happen!!! Thanks for your input people; I'll just email him the info and put this enquiry to bed.
