I always liked Canned Heat - Great stuff!

Here's a Texas bluesman called Henry Thomas with Bull Doze Blues - it's the song that Canned Heat took bits from and used for Goin' Uo the Country many years later.

The whistle/flutey sound is made on what the old rural musicians called a 'cane' (it was normally home-made).

Hope someone enjoys it - I love to think of people dancing to the music of Henry Thomas around ninety years ago.

As a pro maker of hedgerow and folksy Wooden Whistles, I really can appreciate this Korky.....

'As very young 1940 s brats we used to make slide whistles cut from a young Ash branches.......just cut a section around 6 inches long.......cut around the bark an inch or so in......then beat the longer section gently with a penknife handle, until bruised but not broken, it slides off.......cut the whistle hole and step, then blow......

Great fun!

I've been on a folk kick for summat like 55 years!

Love Sharon Shannon - thought this song was written by Steve Earl. Went to see him a while back at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. Left at half time and went to the pub!

And that looks like a great party - just how we could be if we weren't so embarrassed by our traditions.
