There's no noticeable difference in functionality.  I think the issue will be compatibility with future versions of Photoshop / Lightroom / MacOs / Windows.
If the version you've got works with your current system then there's no need to upgrade at this time.

If it works, stay with it.  I have the new version which I installed to try and get over  some problems with the old version that I put down to incompatibility with Windows 10 as it updates.  It made no difference and DXO (who now own it) don't have the best customer service.   They have tried on and off  over a year or so, to resolve the issue which is fairly widespread according to the internet, but failed miserably.  They now no longer answer my emails.  There are work-arounds but they slow the processing down considerably.  The saving grace however, is that it can be used as a stand alone app. without any of these problems.

It surprises me how its not really been overhauled and updated  after all theses years, considering how many people still use it.  I’ve got my work flow sorted again on my new Mac book. Lightroom classic and the old Nik software,  well if it’s not broken don’t change it.

I’ll have to google PIXELMATOR PRO as I’ve not heard of that.

I think Fuji's getting this one:

Yes! .....That’s the software.....now, came the rub....

ipad pro’s don’t connect to hard drives directly, and are not really meant for mainstream RAW photo editing and saving....unless you pay the extra fir the most expensive model.

but, after some research, and you-tubing, I discovered the RAVPOWER FILEHUB.... a wireless connecting device that any usb harddrive will connect to....the drive ad all it’s files can be accessed as if on a pc......MAGIC?

By the way, I don’t think it works with the smaller iPads, but it might be worth checking first.

I will report progress in due course...

I've got the Mac versions of Pixelmator and Pixelmator Pro.
Financially, Pixelmator was a really good deal - I paid £17 for version 1 in 2011 and got free upgrades to versions 2 & 3.
The interface looks really good and it does most of what you need but I hardly ever use it nowadays because I've got Photoshop.

My rationale for acquiring my iPad-pro RAW photo editing set up is twofold....

My current set up is on an eight year old Sony Vaio laptop, running a 15? Year old version of Photoshop CS6 plus an early version of Nik-Efex.....all on Windows 10 .....the laptop is connected to a ten year old 27inch monitor with a couple of faulty pixel lines running through.....so not sure how long it ( or I ) will be up and running.

The iPad Pro is an amazing bit if kit, that never fails to surprise me..... the about to be launched, latest Pixelmator app is cheap, and does all that my other software is capable of....I will overcome the iPad Pro storage limits by spending circa £55 on the ...RAVPOWER FILEHUB ....that connects wirelessly between iPad and my existing 3 terabyte external drive.

I will of course need to learn how to use the new set up.....editing from an armchair, won’t be the same as sitting at a desk in front of a pc.....but, my ancient brain requires a good old shake-up every so often.....

So we’ll see what develops....

Mmmmmmmmm! What have I let myself in for? ??

Just found this....

Ok!

i must say that I’m very impressed with the basic ...PIXELMATOR ...app for my iPad Pro..... the pro version should be available on the 19th of April.

I can also report that my very first experience of connecting my 3 terabyte external drive to my iPad-pro using the newly acquired RAVPOWER all-in-one FILEHUB ....has gone seamlessly ...I have quite a bit to learn about which RAW files it will read.

Currently I have worked on a JPEG taken circa 3 years ago at a wedding....I transferred it from my external drive to....My Photos.....from there I copied it to ...PIXELMATOR ....for adjustments/editing......

A simple task, yes....but I like to learn from the easy stages first......all of the filters and tools worked as well as expected.....

Once I get the hang of saving RAW FILES...I won’t need to fill up my iPad storage...all will be transferred to the wirelessly connected external drive....that  is normally com=nnected to my main computer.

If you have one of the newer iPads, it might be worth you exploring this way of storing and editing pics, on the iPad......but before you buy anything check that your particular model is compatible with a RAVPOWER Hub.

The proof of the pudding as they say........
