For the last 12 years or more, I've been collecting unusual UK placenames...  either towns, cities, villages or places I know a strange hobby... but .... here's the list...

Assloss, near Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. (Sounds painful)

Badger's Mount, near Farnborough.
Balls Cross, West Sussex. (Sounds painful to me!)
Bare, near Morecambe, Lancashire. (Good place to go naked maybe?)
Barton in the Beans, west of Leicester.
Bell End, near Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. (But only if you're male..)
Boggart Hole Clough, in Manchester
Bottom Flash, near Winsford, Cheshire. (Where the naked rambler came from..?)
Brill, east of Oxford. (It's a  really great place! )
Broom, Warwickshire, Bedfordshire and Highland (Probably needs a good clean by now...)
Brown Willy, Bodmin Moor, Cornwall.  (I won't comment..)
Buttock, near Barley, Lancashire.
Buttock Point, Isle of Bute.

Cackle Street, near Hastings, Sussex. (Any witches here??)
Cauldron Snout, Durham
Cocklick End, near Slaidburn, Lancashire. (No more blow jobs here...)
Coffinswell, near Torquay, Devon. (You need to cut down on your smoking then..)
Cold Blow, near Tenby, Pembrokeshire. (Something only done in winter?)
Coven, Nr Cannock (Do we need 13 people?)
Crackpot, Swaledale, North Yorkshire. (Yes there are plenty here)
Crank, near St. Helens, Merseyside. (And probably here too!!)
Crapham Down, near Beachy Head, East Sussex. (Another place to watch your step..)

Dancing Dicks, near Hatfield Peverel, Essex. (Sounds interesting!!)
Dawn, in Conwy (Need to be up early to see this.)
Dead Cow Point, Lundy Island. (Is the dead cow still there??)
Dent, near Sedbergh, North Yorkshire. (Is this a warning of what could happen if you park your car here?)
Dull, near Pitlochry. (Doesn't sound very interesting to me!!)

Flash, near Buxton, Derbyshire. (Best keep your eyes closed here!)
Friendly, near Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire. (Ah, but is it?)

Great Cockup, (mountain) near Bassenthwaite, Cumbria. (Is there a Lesser Cockup?)
Great Snoring, near Walsingham, Norfolk. (Is there a cure I wonder...?)

Hearts Delight, near Sittingbourne, Kent. (I'm going here..)
Henlade, near Taunton. (It must be an egg, as the next village is called Ham.)
Howle, north of Telford, Shropshire. (Ok then I will - HOOWOOOLLLL)

Idle, near Bradford. (Idle Working Men's Club? Yep, there is one)
Indian Queens, near Newquay, Cornwall.

Jack-in-the-Green, near Exeter, Devon.
Jump, Barnsley, South Yorkshire. (You forgot the Simon says....)

Land of Nod, near Grayshott, Hampshire. (Great place for a sleep)
Leysdown on Sea, Isle of Sheppey, Kent (like on the Dead Sea?).
Loose, near Maidstone, Kent. (The place to find Loose women?)
Loose Bottom, near Falmer, East Sussex. (Bad case of the sh*ts...)

Pink Green, near Redditch, Worcestershire. (Shouldn't be seen...)
Pity Me, north of Durham. (Okay then)
Pixey Green in Suffolk

Ramsbottom, north of Bury, Greater Manchester. (Sheep's bum anyone?....)
Raw, near Whitby. (naked or half-baked?)
Red Roses, near Carmarthen. (For me, you shouldnt have...)
Rest and Be Thankful, Argyll and Bute. (Okay I will be)
Retire, near Bodmin, Cornwall. (Still got 10 more years, then I might..)
Rotten Bottom, Tweeddale, Borders. (A result of a bad curry night?)
Rows of Trees, near Wilmslow, Cheshire. (I see them everywhere..)

Sandy Balls, near Fordingbridge, Hampshire. (What you get from having sex on the beach.)
Scratchy Bottom, near Durdle Door, Dorset. (See above)
Seething, near Norwich. (Does it make you cross?)
Send, near Woking, Surrey. (I did press send..)
Slack Bottom, near Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. (A result of another bad curry night?)
Stiff Street, near Sittingbourne, Kent. (They're either dead or very horny...)

Thwing, near Bridlington. (Just wondering if there's a thwang somewhere...?)
Tiltups End, near Nailsworth, Gloucestershire.
Tongue of Gangsta, Mainland of Orkney. (Sounds like a rap band)
Turdees, near Chapelhall, North Lanarkshire.  (Best watch your step...)
Twatt, on the Mainland of Orkney.

Ugley, near Bishop's Stortford. (Home of the ugley Women's Institute? - Yep there is one)
Upend, near Newmarket.

Washaway, near Bodmin, Cornwall.
Wide Open, north of Newcastle upon Tyne. (Home of dentists perhaps.?)
Wittering, near Peterborough. (No - there couldn't be a Wittering Women's Institute, could there?)
Witchburn, Argyll & Bute - (Did they....?)
World's End, west of Birmingham, also near Newbury, also a pub in Edinburgh. (Careful its a long drop)
Wrangle, near Boston, west of the Wash. (A lot arguements here...)

I rather like the English villages (and roadsigns) with names that sound like they belong to country & western artists. My favourite is Earl Sterndale in Derbyshire. I can almost picture him walking out on stage.

When I first started the list, with just 6 places, I had been to them all, over the years I've asked friends and family to let me know when the spot anywhere interesting in their travels....

I did spot Witherslack in Cumbria last weekend on my travels. There's also a Penistone Hill near Haworth - it's pronounced pen is tone, with a short e, like in the writing implement...

There's also a Wormald Green in Yorkshire - whilst not particularly amusing, my ex-wife's maiden name was Wormald and her first husband's surname was Green.

There's also Steep Lane, near Sowerby in Calderdale and Triangle not far away.... and I've just remebered there's a Peckett Well, near Mythholmeroyd also in Calderdale. And another few I've just remembered, there's a Bedlam, just outside of Accrington, and a Little Town near Ribchester. So I probably need to update my list again... There's also a street called Longmeanygate I see whenever I go to Martin Mere near Southport, that I've yet to find an origin for....

Think I need to update my list.To be honest a lot fun in finding these places is coming up with a witty retort...

I lived a couple of miles from Cockermouth for eight years and the amusement of the name never wore off.

Its named due to its location at the confluence of the River Cocker and the River Derwent. It makes for a lovely location and a funny name but is also the case of the massive floods that hit the town from time to time, the last big one had the Main Street about ten feet under water.

and.....we have a village close by called ......Ashow.......we always inform visitors of the Pepper Mines there.
