A lucky find......

Heard our resident magpies giving alarm calls, and, being as I was outside 'birdie hunting', with the camera, and I didn't have the girls with me,  I went to investigate.

Look what I found - a beautiful Lace Monitor. I followed him and he climbed up on to a tree stump:

Then he progressed, rather 'snake like' further up the tree:

He settled there, quite well camouflaged:

I stayed very still for about 10 minutes, then he came down again and headed off, only to be under attack again:

He went up another tree and 'observed ' me:

Then he settled again in the sun, and I left him in peace:

So lucky to see this - just proves our Summer switch has turned!!

Thanks all - he has just been back again and had a drink out of our bird water!, but by the time I got out with the camera I lost him amongst the bushes. Guess he will be around again, and I love it when you can get close enough to see the colour and texture of the skin.
