Random Questions #2 - The secret to your forum name

Phoenix

What is the secret behind your forum name?

OK, if you are Phil, and your forum name is Phil, then you don't need to answer, but if it's not.. then share how you came about being called what you are.

So my forum name is Phoenix. If there are any Harry Potter fans out there, you will remember that Dumbledore had a phoenix names Fawkes. Well FAWKES is my surname......

I'm afraid I don't have a forum. If I did, I'd have to think hard about what to call it. Names ARE very important, but to be honest The Independent Photographers' Forum does what it says on the tin, so very easy to find I guess, if you're out there looking.

I think it is what you call yourself on the forum, Chris.

I am known as Weasellady on some other forums including Mercia rescue forum, as I adopted my first two ferrets in 2003, then another three.

After getting friendly with the lady who ran Mercia ferret rescue, going to the fundraising shows and generally becoming besotted by these little creatures, I started long term fostering for the rescue and had 32 in all over the years.

My last lovely ferret, Angel, crossed the Bridge earlier this year as she became paralysed when her spine gave up.

she was to be our last one due to our age and Johns health.

The name, NannyFerret stuck because my two youngest granddaughters called me that so as to know me from their other nanny..

The youngest who is nearly six still calls me this sometimes, which I think is kind of sweet.

I came across my name in The golden Bough by Sir James Frazer many years ago.  The wolf or dog is often the embodiement of the spirit of the field in harvest customs and is caught or killed in the last sheaf.  The reaper of the last sheaf of Rye is called the Rye Wolf - hence my name.

that's quite regal Ryewolf, and very impressive

So I won't answer then, Phoenix :)

There was me thinking you'd decided on your name because of some personal rise from the ashes and it's from Harry Potter!

Re my name - Not from the bible but from a woman's mag!. My Mum had read a story in Woman's Weekly  where the heroine was called Judith so  that what I was named. However,  many of the family and friends called me Judy, Mum tried to persuade them but ...

Sorry to disappoint you Judy, but I could come up with a rise from the ashes story - leave it to me! (sad but true, I am a HP fan)

We have used our dogs names as user names for ages. Kobi got her name because I went to high school with a girl called Kobi Van Ballagoyen, and when she was a puppy and we wanted another name.

Kobi was our choice, because it is a 'strong' name. Doesn't have enough characters to be a username in many places, so we added the 'one' and it sounds a bit like Obione Kanobi out of Star Wars!! :D
