  1. We call these little birds, Red-Browed Firetails. This is the first photo I've taken of them so they get to go up on the TIPF site.
  2. Pretty clear winner, well done, Colin. An excellent study of orange & blue with strong design. Thank you to whoever closed the voting.
  3. I've been photo graphing thistle flowers and this is another version from the one I posted under macro. PS. I had some trouble uploading my photo last night on my laptop when I was away from home hence the error post above.
  4. Thank you for entering your Complimentary Colours entries. This week, I've been thinking about complimentary colours and why I chose it as theme for this challenge. Like most art students, I learnt the basics of colour theory creating my own colour wheel and learning about the relationships of colours on the wheel: colours beside each other being harmonious colours and colours opposite each other being "complimentary" to each other. It seemed to me that "complimentary" was an strange name - as if these colours paid each other a compliment - when they are the opposite of each and made each other look brighter. They can even "clash". In Australia so much of our landscape has the orange of the earth and the blue of the sky and our art so often depicts this.
  5. Thanks Korky, i loved your autumn set.
  6. Oh very sorry, everyone, i changed my mind and didn’t realise I’d hit the post button. I want it to be complimentary colours. Do I need to delete the other one? It’s midnight here & I just got home.
  7. The theme for the next weekly challenge is "Complimentary Colours": Blue & Orange; or Red and Green; or Purple and Yellow. As usual, a photo from your archives or one taken just for the challenge. This challenge will end at midnight on Friday 26 October.
  8. I went to the cemetery yesterday to photograph the Rainbow Bee-Eaters who arrive in Spring. I'll post the photos in Nature and wildlife later. While I was there I found this large coffee jar of red roses on the grave of the man that used to grade the road when I was young and took lots of photos with the aim of adding a texture for this week's theme. I'm a learner when it comes to textures. for this picture I added a texture of some sandstone that is very common here.
  9. Yorta Yorta are one of the indigenous groups from this part of the Murray River and north. The didgeridoo and Clapping sticks were made by a local member of this group. I understand these were used by the men in traditional ceremonies.
  10. Didgeridoo and clapsticks. I agreed take some photos for my workplace's Annual Report ( in a weak moment) that included an image of these objects made by a local Yorta Yorta artist.
  11. Congratulations, Korky. Such a variety of interpretations on this theme.
  12. This raven has been hanging around my yard for over a year. The lack of black feathers on the back of its head gives it a strange profile and enables easy identification: a rare thing with ravens. I believe it is nesting - its Spring here in Australia - and I hope to get some photos of the offspring.
  13. "Rustic garlic" I had a bumper crop of garlic last summer including this powerful purple variety.
  14. Missed the cut off by 2 minutes. I got distracted from uploading my entry by BIll's amazing portrait.
