Typhoon Euro Fighter coming home to RAF Conningsby 07/05/14

Unfortunately weather wise it was a rather dull afternoon with heavy rain spoiling the day as 18 of these were due to land.

Rather than bore you all, and if you would like to view some more of this set please use the link below to view my Flickr page

What a great capture.

At circa 06:35 on Tursday morning we were shaken from our just waking dizziness by a very loud and sharp....BANG!......my neighbours all heard it too, no one knew what it was.

Not until I did a little probing on the Net......I discovered that it was a pair of Eurofighters scrambled in response to an emergency signal being emmited from a civilian helicopter.

The fighters jointly breaking the Sound Barrier caused the house shaking BANG!

A sound that I have heard only three times since the 1950s when it was all extremely new.

I'm glad they don't scramble the Eurofighters like that every day.

Fuji - we don't hear the sonic bang, as we are split between Conningsby and Cranwell we hear them overhead although they don't do a lot of night flying

Incidentally - all the planes in the set were travelling rather fast, not there as a public air show but coming home in time for tea!

Thank you Denis for taking the time to look at the rest of the set, Break is one of my Fav's too.  I followed shooting both 2 and 3 breaking off but that one is the better shot.

The double runway picture shows a Typoon (left)  in Battle of Britain colours and if you look carefully you can see a Lightening in the back ground (part of the BBM Flight)

I did see the squadron coded Typhoon, although I think resplendent  with the black and white invasion stripes, and carrying the codes of 198 squadron (a wartime Hawker Typhoon Squadron) that it is to do with the 70th anniversary of D-Day this year.
