Thanks Clicker, actually I was stood at a foot crossing that leads to a public foot path. The station at Summerseat is about 400 yards behind me.

Battle of Britain class 34072, designed by Oliver Bulleid, was built in 1948 and withdrawn from BR service in 1964.  This type was notable for its flat sides, to become known as ‘Spam Cans’, and unique chain driven valve gear.

It was purchased by Southern Locomotives Ltd and restored at Swindon in 1990, moving to Swanage in 1992.  It ran until 2003 needing a major overhaul.  This started in 2013 and it returned to service in 2018.
