A lover's tiff....

Just looked out of the 'puter room window and saw not one, but three of our big Mud Wasps on the bird bath. I think it was a bit of a confronting meeting:

Get off her, she's mine:

Sorry, I'm not letting go:

Showed their colours up nicely. These two got so enthusiastic they fell into the water, had to 'untangle', and flew off in opposite diections!!

Fabulous pictures to show up the colours and details, especially in the second one.

Considering their size, apecies, and vibrant (warning?) colouring I was quite surprised when I found out they are relatively harmless and non-aggresive,

Hi, KOBIONE,

I recorded something similar with a particular species of Bumble Bee, it too looked like a very aggressive time, but no.......the experts on a specialist site assured me it was just normal mating behavior.

So it is a real case of.........Make Love not War;-)

Thanks, all :D

Bugs, when we first saw one we registered the 'warning' colours, but have never had a problem, although, because of their size they can be a bit intimidating when they circle your head, buzzing noisily, and stop for a look at your face!!

Yes, Fuji, Annie - it was love not war. We have, (hopefully), a significant rain event heading our way, and all of Nature seems to feel it. Lots of insects, ants and birds are VERY busy!!

Knew you'd like them Paul. Sorry, don't think they would travel too well.
