Interesting end to the afternoon.......

As we were monitoring the fire near us we heard a call on the scanner, asking our local police to attend the cricket ground and be prepared to keep onlookers at bay, as the helicopters fighting the fire front were about to land and refuel. Naturally we dropped what we were doing and shot into town.  When we arrived there 2 choppers were already down, including this one:

This monster is called:

Named after the pilots father. Sorry, I couldn't cut everybody out of the picture!

Pretty impressive engine bits, and we don't get to see these close up very often:

Another one came in, Fire Bird 309, and quickly got refulled:

Then headed off to the fire ground again, to check for hot spots:

In came another, with his spray pipe hanging:

Once again refuelling got underway quite quickly, and he headed off again:

'Malcolm' the sky crane was the last to take off again:

Altogether there were 4 choppers, including Malcolm, and I bet they made a difference!! An interesting end to the afternoon!

Love the 'Huey' (yellow/blue one) Probably ex RAAF UH-1H, and an old 'Vietnam vet' itself. I like watching helicopters, they intrigue me, but dont fancy flying in one. Rather have a set of normal wings to rely on!

Wow! .......You lead a very interesting life in the Outback Kobione..........I too love helicopters, except perhaps for the commercial one, that flies low over our house two or three times every weekday.......it is more than noisy, it can rattle the windows.

This in one fascinating set.

Great set, Dee. Thank you for sharing.

My daughter-in-laws mums electric has been cut off and her man friends flat has been flooded so they are staying with my son and daughter-in-law in Banbury for the time being.

Spooky coincidence - a friend was delayed going to Banbury because of the floods between there and here in the SW. She did make it in the end though.
