Just a quirk of yours. I lasted 38 seconds.

If music was just limited to this or One Direction I'd have to choose er..... Neither, I'd become a monk and farm oysters.

Korky

Does that mean you dont like it or are you just looking for an excuse to become an oyster monk to escape matron

I just can't imagine how energetic and melodic post-punk can be equated with One Direction, even in the tiniest way.

Chris - That could make Pseuds Corner, that could.  My comment was meant to be light-hearted, it wasn't meant to spark a discussion for Guardianistas.

Korky

BTW - I was being kind when I said I lasted 38 seconds. It was actually 17. Now, lighten up and stop trying to pick a fight with a pensioner  :innocent:

Korky.......whether it was 17 or 38 seconds .......is that your recorded time in cuddles with Matron?

Seriously though, I did have a listen to Chris's choice........Girls at our Best......and thought how much it reminded me of .....1920s -1930s Syncopated Rythm novelty songs.....

Should you be interested........Twiddle your Cat's Whisker and Crystal Set to tune into the wonderfully nostalgic .....RADIO DISMUKE........it can be a voyage of Discovery......with amazing Jazz, Blues, Charleston, etc ......a real mix of Pre-Electronic music from wax records ........Most of which have been re-Mastered ...

Give it a go, more than once, because you can hit the not so good spots, but when it does hit the mark, you will be tapping your feet like Fred Astaire.

Have to say I prefer the original version of Gone Daddy Gone by the Violent Femmes and the if  5,6,7,8's had done the Girls at our best - fun city teenagers, I'd a liked it better - I did listen to the whole song...

The album (reissue on Cherry Red 4* out of 5 from MOJO) is called "Pleasure" so if you are interested give it a whirl. Original dates from - I think - 1979 or 1980.

Just found this thread and went through it a little and what a great thread it is!

Then I thought what can I possibly add to this, as even as a old fart my tastes range from classical music to Daughtry.

So I decided on the one song that has stayed with me since I was a teenager many many years ago, Hey There Lonely Girl by Eddie Holman.

I still admire this man years later, he is now a Baptist Minister but still sings and has lost nothing of his talents as this live recording when he is in his 60's shows.

Sorry do not know how to embed the video.

It was more for the Macro lads than the actual song and I agree VF do do it better

McLean says it doesn't stand up to dissection - he wrote it in lots of bits over a period of time. At no point - apparently - was he saying  "this is so-and-so" and "that is so-and-so". The only certain bit is that the opening and ending refer to the death of Buddy Holly and the other 2 with him. Sad to think how much time has been wasted looking for hidden meanings!

I doubt any of you will watch this through to the end... it's 56 minutes long.

I do like Knopfler ... but as with all long videos people here post, they stop me getting to the View New Content button. It's a straight choice between watching, or getting on with stuff... :D
