it's a Rhododendron Denis, a variety called .Percy Wiseman ..I have 80 different colours and  hybrids  now ... I buy 5 every year  and plant them in memory of our parents and a sister ... my latest one  from last year is Midnight Mystique .. Its just flowering this week  but it's young and only has about 8  or  9  heads on it ... see below ...taken yesterday ...

Capturing the bee was a happy accident then, Polly. Your rhododendrons must be a visual delight at this time of year and so gratifying given their connection to your parents.
I believe Rhododendrons are indigenous to the Himalayas and grow enormous in forests on the lower mountains. Have you been fortunate enough to see them there?

Actually I was trying to catch the bee but when I was editing I had so many pics at 20 fps that I thought I'd missed him completely   on this one and was about to delete when i had a closer look et voila !!  Not  the best bee pic I've ever taken but worth a second look ...

Here's a pic of  just some of the 80 rhodos  I have in the garden, from a couple of years ago at the end of May, looking out from my front door...  I feed them every year with ericaceous food  to keep the soil at an acidic pH of 4-5.5.
