Have had a sh*tty couple of weeks for various reasons, and tonight I actually saw my camera for the first time in a fortnight - got it out of the cupboard, drove to my favourite bridge, walked to it, looked around, went back to the car and came home, not a shot taken :-(

Anyone got any tips to get out of a rut/re-engage with stuff? I'm just not seeing the picture at the moment, if you see what I mean - or do I just take more prozac and wait for it to re-align ;-)

Festcu, we all have 'down times', I've had one this week as a result of a chronic ear infection - feel like I've been walking around 'under the influence' all week! Haven't even taken a camera out of the house, although I never really expect to 'compete' with the fantastic posts we see on here. I usually just have fun, and I'm sure that element of fun will return for me, soon. Hopefully the same for you. Go back to your bridge, take a deep breath, and try to look through new eyes :D

I once went 5 weeks without taking a photo. At sometime, I think everyone seems to have a sabbatical which just "happens".

The mojo comes back, usually suddenly.

Try to be different. Put on a 50mm lens and shoot everything at f/1.8 and nothing else. While you're at it, try and see a black and white image at the same time and then make it happen, either by shooting in jpg in camera or converting in software.

Oh, and go somewhere different. A new location will give you new ideas.

Paul.

As you know, festcu,I have been the same with it being a bad couple of weeks and then losing my little fuzzy.

It helped to get out yesterday and I was surprised to see so many boats and canoes on the river.
My pics weren't brilliant but it has given me a bit of a push to get back into it again.

Paul, I love my 50mm 1.8mm lens. I am so glad I decided to get it before my holidays.
As you said, you can shoot anything and everything with it and it makes a change from the zoom.

Even my daughter-in-law enjoyed getting some close-up-shots of my two young granddaughters and she had never handled a DSLR..

it will come back,

when i was unwell (well un-weller), i couldn't lift the camera never mind take a photo, when i did get a little better and stronger i just couldn't be bothered to make the effort to go out anywhere.

ended up in the back garden shooting the odd plant or bird.

after a lot of months i decided to start taking indoor shots, water drops, smoke effects etc, this was because i still could not manage or even be bothered to go out for 2-3 hour walkround and take pictures.

even now i have to force myself to go out but have to wait until the 'good old pills' kick in.

i don't go far, coast mainly as it is very close to me, i haven't managed to get out into the country for the 5-6 hour wanders like i used to do, but still the bug is coming back.

with the darker colder days/nights approaching i won't be going very far but intend to keep at the indoor shots, flowers/ water/ still life etc.

happens to us all, the time where things are not right, but give it a little time and eventually everything will come back, might not be tomorrow or next month but give it time.

in the meantime make sure you keep in touch on the site and we will look forward to your new images in the Festcu part 2 post

geoff.

i havent picked up my camera since i finished my 366 project. Real life just seems to have got in the way and i havent had the time or the inclination to do so

However BP gave me a challenge on facebook the other day because i was bored, and it was the first time this year i picked up my camera.

How about asking a friend to set you a small challenge or give you a subject matter ?

An important part of my Social Work training was marriage guidance and counseling.......I remember that for couples who had lost their mojo's .......... One important bit of advice was to allow cheekiness, come hither looks ( can't use naughty language on here) plus the banning of touching certain areas......the touching and stroking of any other areas was to be encouraged.......

.........that was just one ploy to carefully rebuild trust and, eventually mojo's......Why am I telling you all this?

Festcu.........place your beautiful camera in a prominent position........then allow yourself to touch or stroke ANY part EXCEPT the shutter button.........even take the camera out, but follow the same rule.........I bet, eventually your desire to take photographs will overcome your frustration.

PHEW!

Talk about teaching kids about the birds and the bees?
