Thought I would introduce my favourite genre with an image taken recently on the 70D.

Wasps are amazing insects, and now that the process of feeding the queens is done, they turn their attention to fruit and such trivialities. The problem with apples though, is it is like cider to them, and they get drunk, which means the likelihood of us being stung increases as they turn nasty when under the influence!

So here is a wasp. Enjoy.

I've included the exif in a spoiler, as I mentioned in my post in the technical data thread.

Thank you Martyn.

The exif is collected by using an "add-on" in my browser - Mozilla Firefox. If you use Firefox, you simply download & install it. Then any photo in the forum that has not had exif stripped can be viewed and copied with a simple right click of the mouse.

If the community want a detailed walkthrough, I can easily sort that out.

Hi Paul,

What can one say on seeing this your first post on here?

Nothing but admiring words and thanks for the inspiration.......the shot has been beautifully thought out, processed, then presented to the highest standard.

More please.

Nice shot.

However watermarking or signing pictures is not as secure as people think since they can usually be Photoshopped out, or in fact there is downloadable software on the web people wishing to steal images can use to remove watermarks, even right across the image. I suppose such text gives some slight sense of security from casual stealing of images, but not from people intent on doing so.

See what I mean in the link below.  Text over photo's and watermarking, though often recommended on photo sites and in photo magazines, is not as secure as most think. If somebody really wants to steal your photo they can easily do so if they know what they are doing, and those most likely to steal it for profit usually do:-

Also the Internet is international, therefore your picture is more likely to be stolen abroad and can you afford to institute a foreign court case and employ lawyers in the hope of getting recompense, since how much is your picture actually worth? You are certainly not going to get Legal Aid to do so!

As they say, the only way to keep an image safe on the Internet is never to post it!

Well, first, thanks you for the very kind remarks about the photo.

Secondly, watermarks, love them or hate, or remove them, either way, in my images they are 99% likely to stay.

As a follow on to the watermark issue, you can of course create a watermark that can only be seen when the image is opened in editing software and examined - and to do this you create the watermark in say, the blue channel only. Afterwards, once it has been hidden, it can only be seen if you reveal the blue channel in software.

Still not worry eh?

Annie, it's annoying when it does happen, but I suppose it's also a compliment.

Cheers everyone  :)

Paul.

A couple of minutes using Google typing "Removing Photo Watermarks" as I did will show anybody intent on pinching 90% of watermarked images on the Web how to do it, that's really how little security they provide:-

As said before if they are pinched abroad even with secret watermarks, can you afford to institute the legal process to get redress, and is the picture worth it? For there to be so many video's on how to do it a lot of people must be removing watermarks from other peoples images?

The best solution is to only post small or modest versions of your pictures, never full size. If anyone ever challenged your indignant claim to be the owner, you could tell them you own the full size version, and even give them some of the EXIF. That might shut them up.
