In a pickle with lightroom...

Denis

Recommended Posts

I have lightroom 5.7

I have just got a new D7500 and I cannot edit my photos as it tells me it is an unsupported file..but its Nikon RAW, I have always shot in RAW, even my ViewNX2 will not do anything with them.

I know my lightroom is getting on but I do not want to pay £10 a month to rent software !

Can anyone advise me what to do or what to try?

This seems to be a common problem with older versions of Lightroom....

Apparently this Adobe DNG Converter enables you to easily convert camera-specific raw files from supported cameras to a more universal DNG raw file.

Adobe provides backwards compatibility for the latest cameras for use in older versions of Photoshop, Lightroom, Bridge, After Effects, and Photoshop Elements through the DNG Converter.

Seems you need to convert them to DNG format and then open them in Lightroom

Thank you anyway Korks, I downloaded the Adobe converter this morning before work, and quickly tried an edit. Yay! It works..

Much better and clearer than the Nikon NX-i thing I tried to edit the two dragonfly pics I posted last night with, they were 'orrible!

All good advice above and a route I have been down when adobe were struggling with the Fuji format.  However, I was never happy with the quality that Adobe's DNG converter provided although that may also have been down to the non standard pixel format that Fuji have adopted for their APSC range.  In the end,  I bought a copy of the Irident Tranformer version for Fuji which cracked the problem.  They do a similar converter for Nikon if you're interested:

Since then I've succumbed to Adobe's subscription for PS CC etc which is now kept reasonably up to date and produces the quality I want.
