@Kobione will be used to this...

over the last week or so we have had a ,ot off wild fires, the original one started by some lowlife kid with a deranged head!

the fires are a few hundred feet away from the stables where my daughter works at weekends... luckily,so far there has been little risk to them, except the smoke and fumes.

Hard to imagine someone setting a fire on purpose. What a sad state of affairs we are in though when behaviour like that causes so much anguish to those who either live/work farm near these vulnerable areas, or have to deal with putting the fires out, re: the emergency services.

These fires can have devastating results that do last for many years. We have the same hatred and absolute disgust of people that deliberately start them.

We have been monitoring what is going on there and understand that the incidents are probably more of a shock over there because they are not so expected.

Looking at the area covered, 8sq.klms, just image what it was like when, 48,000sq.klms was burned in the Black Saturday fires here in 2009. It was estimated that over 1,000,000 animals were lost, and some areas of bush have never returned to there original state.

Glad there has not been any more serious risk to the stables area Leon, and hope things continue to be under control and improving.

We don't have great open expanses of terrain that you have in Australia, so these are considered to be major incidents when they do happen. The fact they have been deliberately started makes it worse.

Absolutely agree Rye!

there have been other fires locally too the 1st one was over on Saddleworth, then in Leigh, Lytham st annes and near Bury.... what makes you mad is that people are still using throw away BBQ's on the grass near the fires????

Leon, on high fire danger days we have 'total fire bans', which means you cannot use a BBQ outdoors, or any machinery which may cause sparking, or stuff like welding equipment, and we couldn't even do our commercial lawn mowing except in the metro area. It can be a bit restrictive for famers etc, but it does save some idiots from starting a fire without thinking what may happen.
