Hiya! I decided to give this forum a go, as it was billed as the friendliest online photography community in the known universe. ;)

I'm here for educational purposes; my husband and I have both been entrusted with the stewardship of old photos and documents from our respective families, and we want to photograph and digitise the lot so it can be preserved and shared with the wider family. As I'm a complete novice in the photographic arts, I'm hoping to glean some kernels of wisdom from those of you who know your way around a camera.

Thanks for letting me join your party! :)

Hi GMK

Welcome aboard and dont be afraid to ask questions, if they are technical just choose the appropriate board, They just love tech questions on here

If they are images we love them even better If you want detailed feedback about them stick them in the image feedback section

Welcome, glad to have you onboard.

Clicker is probably the best person to ask, if I remember correctly she did a lot of scanning and restoring old photographs. I can think of a couple of ways to digitise photographs, a/ Scan using a flatbed scanner or b/ Use a copy stand and dslr. There's various advantages and disadvantages to using both.

Hi GMK (Thank goodness a shortened version of your user name is already  being used )....With my typing skills , using  15 letters  to address you , I am likely to have forgotten what I was going to say pretty quickly with my memory !!   I saw your query regarding  your family history project and have endeavoured  to answer it.. Hover over arrow on right in box below and click on when it changes to blue to see all of the reply in your other post .

Once you have 30 posts under your belt (all comments count ) you can send and receive personal messages too.

If I can help just yell ....

Polly
