A sad day yesterday, but it had to be done. Kandy has been fading slowly with her Degenerative Myelopathy, and we knew the limit was coming, but something happened yesterday afternoon that we could not ignore. We were in the computer room and heard something bang and Kandy had fallen over in the lounge and could not get up. She did get up with help, but fell 5 times between the lounge and the front door, and when we got her outside it was almost like a human having had a stroke. She could not walk straight, kept collapsing, and was simply 'not with it'. Brief discussion and off to a vet in Bendigo. Very difficult getting her out of the car, but the Vet staff did a great job holding her up with slings etc. Yes, she had signs of Vestibular Syndrome, (a stroke in dogs), so the choice was made, and she went over the Rainbow Bridge very peacefully in my arms. Farewell to our Gentle Giant, run happy and free now with all those friends over there. xx

Now we are down to two again, and our task today is to 'carry on as normal' as best we can, take these two out and enjoy their company.

Kandy 'at her best' and as we will remember her:

Aw Dee ... I am so sorry to hear your news... Losing a pet who has been  a loyal friend and part of the family for so long is a tough bridge to cross  and we are lucky that at least with our pets we have the choice of being able to make that hard decision to ease any further suffering ..... it is a painful decision to make but important to make it at the right time out of love for our four legged friends .   She was a stunning looking animal ... Treasure the memories ...

Thank you all for the nice thoughts. Kandy had a great life, and we have heaps of pictures and videos of her and the other girls to look back on.

Once again we feel that we made the right choice at the time it was needed. We have kept things calm at home, and Kelly has certainly moved up the chain and is now 'Head Dog', while Brodie is still a fun loving recruit.
