Just as well Phil Noticed that Chris .... That  could have made a lot of your photos in ten years time when you show pics of your 40th (?)  birthday party  look like you were very much ahead.. or would it be behind  in the fashion stakes !

Another fine crop of images, this week - as well as a cringing play on words from Clickerina (Fooj'll be proud of ya!).

I've discovered that I'm not too keen on JPGs and I'm not sure I'll be repeating the process. For  quite some time I had this silly fear of RAW and thought it'd be too complicated for my simple style of photography. It isn't and now I'd advise anyone who shoots in JPG to give RAW a trial.

Korky

Phil - Please post summat - it doesn't matter a sod if it's not from a JPG original.

I'd shoot RAW if there was (1) even a smidgen of a half chance that my camera would be recognised by software I can run and (2) there's an idiot-proof method of processing them that's especially geared towards those who have processed JPEGs in Photoshop for 20 years or more.

Oh, one other thing - RAW files are bl**dy big and would fill up my hard drive in no time!

I've obviously missed the point, somewhere, as I didn't realise we were shooting .jpg this week. This was taken in RAW on our Marilyn day and later converted to .jpg. Delete it if it's against the rules.

It obviously isn't a hanging offence Brian  so DON'T worry about it ... It's all just a bit of fun I think ...and another excuse to make us pick up a camera regularly  and  meet up once a week at least ... Besides ....what would life be like for his Lordship if he couldn't practise his berating skills on someone once Benson the butler has retired for the night ...

The roof timbers of the Old Pannier Market, Barnstaple, taken today.

Sony A58, 18-55mm zoom, Hand held, JPEG Fine, Auto settings, ISO200, f5.0, 1/160th. Processed in Elements 13, adjusted some camera distortion plus a bit of rotation and some tonal adjustment.

I remember that roof so well, Ron. Can't remember my kids birthdays, but I remember that roof!

I think you would find that little has changed with the Old Pannier Market or Butchers Row Brian, though there is not so many butchers now. The Pannier still has markets 3 days a week and you still have the farmers wives with a small table selling a few veg, flowers and homemade cakes and jam.

A lot of Boutport Street looks the same as does the Square but all around the outskirts of Barnstaple it has grown and grown, houses, houses and yet more houses.

If you keep this up, Ron, you'll find me knocking on your door in a week or so!     But keep 'em coming!

A Walk Down the Cut - 02/02/16

Fuji X30 set to JPG Fine - processed in CC 2015 and Nik Efex

Korky

I like this photo a lot and have been agonising over whether to get Nik Efex since I heard it could handle HDR well. Do you think it's worth the money, Korky. I've already got Photoshop and Topaz. Do you think it does anything that those two can't. I'd be interested in your comments.

Almost all the images I process are put through Nik Colour Efex 4. For me, the best thing is that you can put different filters together and save them as a 'recipe' - a bit of a daft expression, but that's how Nik refer to it.

I tend to do preliminary adjustments in Lightroom and then swap to Photoshop CC and Nik for most of my edit. I don't think Nik can do anything you can't do in Photoshop, but it does make editing so much easier and it saves all the Nik adjustments as a separate layer which makes life easier back in Photoshop. If you aren't happy with the Nik adjustments, just delete the layer and start again with the original layer.

I'd recommend you do as Judy suggests and download the free trial - Silver Efex (for processing mono) is worth a look as well.

Good luck - I look forward to seeing the results.
