First hoverfly this year into the garden - I found it on the floor, and placed it on a flower or two, hoping it would pick up a bit of energy. The cold evening air is I assume the reason for it being lethargic.

Syrphus torvus.

Just amazing work, brilliant set Paul,

Geoff

The first is the strongest of an excellent set for me, Paul

Great set with no1 being the standout one, so that's the latin name for a hoverfly Paul.:)

Thank you gents :)

I always try for the Latin name with hovers, as there are over 250 species in the UK and they are closely monitored.

Thanks for all the comments gents. :)

John, no, that's an error on my behalf. Earlier in the day I had taken the squirrel pics and forget to change the signature brush!

They were of course taken on the Venus lens.

Thank goodness for that... had you used your 18-135mm lens I would have chucked mine away...

WOAH!

That's Awesome!

How on earth did you manage to get it to stay still???11!!! :D

It was on the floor in the garden when I got home from work, and it was already reluctant to move. I popped it on a dandelion and it remained docile.

Incredible shots Paul...  and though I don't think i will ever put them on my bedroom wall... I acknowledge  the  detail and  technical expertise  needed to produce such stunning shots . Mind you ... glad to see that it wasn't the 18-135 mm lens that was responsible ! .. One could get a complex !

Another great set Paul, But I don't believe you about the fly I think you drug all your insects as the shots are so sharp  :yes

They get drunk on the love of posing for me, lol...  ;)

Fantastic set Paul. The detail you get is amazing, and I love the almost 'poke the tongue out' expression in the first. :D

Thanks Dee - I love this new lens. It's excellent.
