Yes it is barren, isn't it.
Can't understand the urge to send men there.  Not sure I'd like to visit the place.

In a word...Minerals. the chinese have started to take a great interest in the moon. The earths stockpile of certain items is perilously low.

No one bothered too much about the Falkland Isles until recently, the fact that they are sitting on probably the worlds biggest deposit of Natural Gas and Oil has changed a few minds. The amount of equipment and building materials being sent to the Islands is staggering. Part of my old job was based around freight to the Falklands.
