Nowt on tele and inspired by the stunning work Paul and others produce I put the macro lens on the Fuji and went for a mooch round the back garden.

Getting stuff in focus, keeping it there then keeping it still while you press the shutter button is extremely difficult and extremely annoying - I shall keep plugging away though.

I had to shoot at f5.6 and 1600iso even with my macro lights running as it was getting dark and shutter speeds were dropping - the DoF was ridiculously slim so these are the best (?) of a good few dozen frames.

I can see how your shutter count is huge if this is what you chase every day

I do have a ring flash which helps a bit, I set my camera to manual mode, f11, 1/200th, iso100 - a set of settings I used nicked from Paul's macro shots, if it gets really dark I turn of the AF Assist Lamp/and or use another light source to illuminate and increase the flash ev by +1 or 2 3rds...

I've found those settings work well in most cases...

It's not just bugs, if I'm after birds it's probably about the same 1 or 2 shots per 10, but memory cards are cheap enough... and after a while you get to know the shots that will be keepers as opposed to those that are record shots....

Ah yes indeed... The working spaces of millimetres eh Robin?

You've done pretty well - what needs to be in focus is in focus - like any portrait the eyes are critical.

Perseverance is the name of the game. Like Rye says, sometimes you can have a day's shooting and have very little to show for it...

Paul.
