  5. They have a 60 percent probability of losing a leg during their lifetime apparently. Paul.
  6. This is a harvestman - they have 8 legs (usually) but this one has only seven - though it will survive just as well as any other despite losing a leg... It is either Phalangium opilio, or the red harvestman Opilio canestrinii. Paul.

  8. The next stage from the Eulophus Wasp Parasitoids sequence... The detached one has developed what I assume may be (a dark brown) pre-cocoon area... Paul.

  11. I think it is the Bright-line Brown–eye (or sometimes called the Tomato Moth) caterpillar (Lacanobia oleracea). Paul.

    The fear of the false widows is media hype - like petrol shortages... they are the Noble Spider, Steatoda nobilis. Some use the name "False widow" purely because it was created by the media to cause fear, vilify a species and ultimately make money from sales of newspapers. They are generally - harmless. Few if any spiders will actually bite. Paul.

    Thanks Polly. That's known as the "missing sector" orb spider or the "silver-sided" orb spider. Often found near windows. Paul.

  22. Beautiful orb weaver - hard to tell from this side, but I think it's a cross spider - Araneus diadematus. Paul.
