  1. yes indeed! I think another SSD for the computer is on the shopping list.
  2. I may have been absent for a while due to illness, but there has been nothing wrong with my clicking finger. I spotted this beauty on MPB, listed and priced as used, never been out of the shop and used as a demonstration model with 7,000 shutter clicks. It arrived with all the accessories still sealed in the original bags. Love it!
  3. Went for a wander around Maryport just before the rain came. Taken with Nikon D850 with a newly acquired Nikkor 35mm f2D.
  4. Good grief, I can't believe it's over three years ago since I wrote this re-introduction post. Covid certainly put another spanner in the works for me, then a serious health issue put me out of action for over a year. The good news it that I married my nurse! I've got back into taking pictures again and hopefully will get around to posting some on here. Hoping I get to stay around a bit more this time!
  5. Wow, I love that image!
  6. That's a great set of pictures that really hit the spot for me; the enclutterment of the first and the colour blocking of the others appeal to my eye!
  7. The Lido at Grange Over Sands is earmarked for development so I thought I'd try to get some shots of it in it's current state before the chance disappeared. I took plenty of shots through the viewing holes in the fence, but there were weeds, scaffolding and general builders waste everywhere so I was a bit disappointed with the outcome. A hour later I walked back past the same spot and decided to randomly hold the camera up high standing on my tip toes to shoot through the wire over the top of the fence. The sun had already gone down and it was bitterly cold, but I managed to salvage these shots with a bit of cropping and rotating. Taken with my Fuji x100t.
  8. I agree with Fogey, #2 is better in my opinion!
  9. Life has been a rollercoaster for the last few years, but I'm finally able to get out and about again. Trying to get my motivation back to take pictures, so what better than a trip to Keswick and a walk to Friars Crag
  10. Wow, three great shots but #3 is amazing!
  11. Congratulations Van, well deserved!
  12. Way to go Denis! You are now free to go where you want when you want! I loved my old Fiat Ducato that I self converted into a camper van. Me and the missus used to go away at every opportunity, even if it was just for one night. If you ever get the chance to travel to Scotland you don't even need to bother finding a campsite, wild camping is allowed providing you're not making a nuisance of yourself. We used to love turning left at Gretna Green and going along the Dumfries and Galloway coast. Just using a campsite every few days or so for the showers and toilet facilities. When my wife became ill someone made me a great offer for the van so I let it go, but I still sometimes get the hankering for doing another conversion.
  13. Congratulations BP! Not only is this a great picture, it is a credit to you and your lovely family who share and feature in so many of your pictures!
  14. Spent this morning trying to work out why the flash wouldn't work. Tried everything I could think of, but the flash control menu was greyed out and wouldn't let me select it. After a quick Google search I found it to be a common problem with a simple fix; silent mode had been turned on. The camera will do nothing that would draw attention to itself whilst in silent mode including the flash. Went for a walk around Kendal this afternoon and took a few pictures. On returning home I plugged the camera into the computer and began to transfer the pictures, OVER SIX HUNDRED PHOTOGRAPHS! Turns out the File Image Quality was set to Raw and large jpeg, and the Drive Mode was set to High Speed Continuous. So every time I pressed the shutter button I was taking 4,5 or 6 pictures saved in 2 different formats. The camera is so quiet I didn't even hear the shutter going off. Apart from the steep learning curve for this camera, I absolutely love it!
  15. The camera made a fool out of me today (ok, it wasn't hard). I spent a bit of time this morning reading through the Basic Operations user manual trying to get to grips with the different view modes and viewfinder selector. Then I took the camera out with me in the hope I would end up somewhere interesting. I was lucky enough to end up in Ingleton with a lovely view of Ingleborough in front of me. I had the camera set up in fully auto mode and tried to take a shot. I could hear the lens hunting and trying to focus but it wouldn't let me take a shot. I pressed a few buttons and ended up trying to use the LCD screen instead of the viewfinder but it didn't seem to be working. It was starting to rain, so in frustration I got back in the car to try and work out what was wrong. I looked at the camera, turned it around then suddenly realised I hadn't removed the lens cap! This is going to be a steep learning curve for me, the only cameras I've ever used are Nikon DSLRs. A rangefinder style camera is way too advanced for me!?
  16. This was me just over 12 months ago, before I decided it was time to get a new life!
  17. Well, probably enough to pay for the fancy aftermarket shutter release button that came on this. I picked up a used Fujifilm X100T in immaculate condition today with 10,000 shutter actuations. It came with the fancy button, thumb grip and L shape base plate with grip too. I really wanted a Leica but I would probably have to give up my coffee habit to pay for that! ?
  18. Congratulations Fuji, a stunning picture and worthy winner!
  19. A few pics of the bird feeders before the starlings came in and thrashed them!
  20. It's amazing the response I get from folks on social media about all these old photographs. Someone just pointed out that none except the oldest man is wearing spectacles. And, "is this a picture of the trophy cabinet?" All the men seem to have prominent ears! ???
  21. Thanks John & Clicker, that makes perfect sense. The images are not being printed, just attached to a digital family tree. Being able to see the pics greatly magnified on a big monitor is a boon to my friend who has poor eyesight! It's funny you mention the crease Clicker, the photo is perfectly flat and shows no sign of a crease until I copied it, but it's clear from the presentation card that it has been folded at some time.
  22. Over the last few weeks I've been taking photographs of pictures from a friend's family album. I've been passing the full size digital images to my cousin who is working on the family history. It's been a real eyeopener for me because I spotted my own parents in many of the pictures before they were married. It's a small world! I've been placing a photo on the carpet in the living room, and with natural indirect light and the camera on my tripod, just clicking away with great results. However, there is one photo that has given me trouble. It looks ok viewed in poor light, but as soon as I move into light to view it properly it almost glows; it has an almost luminous property. I know the picture has been fingered and passed around a lot, I can see fingerprints and grease marks all over, but the luminous parts are directly related to the dark parts of the photo. Can anyone tell me if it's something to do with the chemicals used in the printing that causes this luminescence. The pictures below show my results, the last picture being a 3 second exposure with the curtains closed. Then processed in Darktable to try to bring out details in the faces.
  23. It is indeed St Patrick's chapel on the headland at Heysham.
