  1. As you were on 4999 BP I couldn't resist giving you a like!
  2. Unless you use red and silver, in which case it is called Kimo Sabi.
  3. Sounds like a local lad. Local to BP I mean.
  4. Welcome John As you sold all your gear, you're well placed to start afresh with the latest cutting edge tech while laying the foundations for the future. One of our stalwarts Black Pearl sold all his DSLR gear for a Fuji mirrorless system - talk to him about his complete lack of regret over doing this.
  5. You look suitably gorml... ey Kev.
  6. You simply couldn't improve anything there. I would nominate that as BP's best ever ... and it's got some competition!
  7. If you go mirrorless (talk to BP about Fuji) you can get virtually the identical quality for a greatly reduced size and weight. And I'd say it's not only the future but almost the present too.
  8. Well I see your logic, but I'd disagree - the point of a car is not to go as slow as you can (unless you're my mum ) but to get where you're going as fast as you can, therefore I'd agree with the 'maximum speed' analogy. However photography isn't about shooting the fastest shutter speed - it's as equally valid to shoot the longest speed if that's the effect you want, or to get the exposure you need, so the analogy breaks down (hopefully, unlike the car... or the camera, come to that...)
  9. Well, yes, I mostly agree with that. However, I only comment on posted image colours if they're apparently too magenta (or red/blue). You see, having calibrated my own display away from magenta, if something looks too magenta to me, then it really must be WAY too magenta on your screens! If you follow my logic...
  10. Welcome to the forums Kirk. Ah, the AE1, the first camera with a computer chip in IIRC?
  11. I calibrate my own Mac screen (it's got a passable calibration utility) but I always calibrate 'warmer' towards yellow and green, as to me all computer displays look too much red/blue. In the end, it's what I see that matters, though there are plenty here that will pick a fight with me over this issue!!!
  12. Do forgive me for being pedantic, but then - you know that's what I am! It's just that I was enjoying reading about the new Sony SLT a99 II on the dpreview website (https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sony-slt-a99-ii/2) where they give the Minimum shutter speed as 30 seconds, and the Maximum shutter speed as 1/8000 second. Ok, I know you will now shout at me in unison "That's the industry standard!!", but don't you think - to the average English speaker - that's the wrong way round? Maximum (as in length of time and amount of exposure) should be 30 seconds, and Minimum (as in length of time and amount of exposure) should be 1/8000 second? Just sayin'....
  13. It's such a trite cliche I'm afraid, but whatever it feels like now, time really DOES heal. You will have many wonderful memories, plus your family to keep you close. Otherwise, I don't know what to say. 'Sorry' seems so inadequate.
  14. Welcome to the forums Curtis - if you don't already know the best places to eat in Exeter, I'm happy to advise...
  15. A Leica M (typ 240) with any short range fast zoom lens I could get s/hand.
  16. On a channel ferry... (water, throbbing engines, seagulls, and flapping flag)
  17. I've got fibre and I can tell you - upload speeds still aren't fantastic. And they might be limited even further by the server you're uploading to.
  18. Perhaps what you need is just to upload your best pictures only to the cloud?
