  1. A very well deserved win.....an image that really stood out against all the rest last week..... Congratulations Robin. FUJI
  2. Hello, plus a very warm welcome to the TIPF community...... it is good to know that you remain keen on vintage film camera’s and lenses..... I don’t shoot on film, I did in the past, on a couple of old ZENITS.... but the cost of purchasing and the processing of film put me off. On full retirement almost 20 years ago now, I wanted a hobby to take me away from my usual crafts of woodwork and painting....so a SONY point and shoot digital camera it was. After becoming a member of the original TIPF, knowledgable members helped me to become the more than keen photographer that I am today....a camera is almost permanently hanging around my neck.....Street Photography and Portraiture are my subjects. I shoot micro-four-thirds, so can fit my huge collection of vintage film lenses to my camera...... or......I can go fully automatic with my Panasonic-Leica lenses....all acquired via eBay. Your input, hopefully, will compliment that of member....Black Pearl....who used to manage a large branch of the original Jessops.... it was he, who guided me over the years advising on both equipment and method... .... I very much look forward to seeing your posts. FUJI

WOW!..... An incredible, expert bit of panning.....superbly presented to.....a well deserved win.... Congratulations John. FUJI
  4. Just like photographers, Artists go through phases of technique and equipments..... as you will see from my previous posts to this thread, my media choice has been water-colour, used in a much bolder way than than those ...rather twee, studies of the past.....As I regained my old Artistic confidence, I reached a kind of Artistic Plateaux, not really finding my own path. Over the past few months I have been cataloging all of my Art works dating back to the 1960s , these have been placed in a self published hardback for my family and close friends....This process made me recall, that back then, I had a complete fascination for the...French Impressionists ....especially their use of colour....but what got me most was the...Pointillist works of...Seurat, Signac Pissarro and Van Gogh...their paintings throb with light and have a way of almost shimmering, owing to the use of small dots or dabs of, mainly primary colours. Rather than use oil paints back in the 1960s I used equally bright but easier to handle....Oil-Pastels......I did many works especially of Life-models both during evening classes, and during workshops with the Coventry and Warwickshire Society Of Artists.... Going through my old work, has re-kindled my interest, so, recently I have been regaining my previous enthusiasm for the technique of Pointillism, and its theories of....Optical Color mixing..... red dots next to yellow dots = orange....blue dots next to yellow dots = green ...and so on...with correct proportions of each primary colour making up the inbetween colours and tones....the technique takes some getting used to, and my studio can sound like a..riveting shop....but it’s an extremely satisfying and relaxing occupation. The first work here has been carried out with an underpainting if Watercolour, that has been enhanced by ...Piontillism using Oil-Pastels....these are very soft and rather n]messy to use. The second work is a study in pure Pointillism, using my extremely bright...Japanese Watercolours ....relatively thick pigments, in a super range of colours....thus was done using a single thin rigger brush. Pointillism, works in exactly the same way, as an ink-jet printer....they use microscopic dots of primary colours to form every other one. I know that some of you like to follow my progress with brushes, paper, pencils and pastels. FUJI
  5. I missed this....... an excellently, seen, image .......wonderful colour and textures..... Congratulations Cheryl. FUJI
  6. Congratulations Strav.....a wonderful study. FUJI
  7. Thank you Korks...... One thing I would like to see, vanish.....is the notification ....... Someone has reacted to your image.... ..or words to that effect.....in reality it means that someone has looked at it, then scarpered. Other than that....overall the forum is doing reasonably ok...... but, as you point out.....feedback and comment are the food of forums..... FUJI
  8. I’ve just discovered this, after it was featured in a radio programmer very early this morning...... I like it....
  9. Ok! i must say that I’m very impressed with the basic ...PIXELMATOR ...app for my iPad Pro..... the pro version should be available on the 19th of April. I can also report that my very first experience of connecting my 3 terabyte external drive to my iPad-pro using the newly acquired RAVPOWER all-in-one FILEHUB ....has gone seamlessly ...I have quite a bit to learn about which RAW files it will read. Currently I have worked on a JPEG taken circa 3 years ago at a wedding....I transferred it from my external drive to....My Photos.....from there I copied it to ...PIXELMATOR ....for adjustments/editing...... A simple task, yes....but I like to learn from the easy stages first......all of the filters and tools worked as well as expected..... Once I get the hang of saving RAW FILES...I won’t need to fill up my iPad storage...all will be transferred to the wirelessly connected external drive....that is normally com=nnected to my main computer. If you have one of the newer iPads, it might be worth you exploring this way of storing and editing pics, on the iPad......but before you buy anything check that your particular model is compatible with a RAVPOWER Hub. The proof of the pudding as they say........
  10. My rationale for acquiring my iPad-pro RAW photo editing set up is twofold.... My current set up is on an eight year old Sony Vaio laptop, running a 15? Year old version of Photoshop CS6 plus an early version of Nik-Efex.....all on Windows 10 .....the laptop is connected to a ten year old 27inch monitor with a couple of faulty pixel lines running through.....so not sure how long it ( or I ) will be up and running. The iPad Pro is an amazing bit if kit, that never fails to surprise me..... the about to be launched, latest Pixelmator app is cheap, and does all that my other software is capable of....I will overcome the iPad Pro storage limits by spending circa £55 on the ...RAVPOWER FILEHUB ....that connects wirelessly between iPad and my existing 3 terabyte external drive. I will of course need to learn how to use the new set up.....editing from an armchair, won’t be the same as sitting at a desk in front of a pc.....but, my ancient brain requires a good old shake-up every so often..... So we’ll see what develops.... Mmmmmmmmm! What have I let myself in for? ?? Just found this.... FUJI
  11. Yes! .....That’s the software.....now, came the rub.... ipad pro’s don’t connect to hard drives directly, and are not really meant for mainstream RAW photo editing and saving....unless you pay the extra fir the most expensive model. but, after some research, and you-tubing, I discovered the RAVPOWER FILEHUB.... a wireless connecting device that any usb harddrive will connect to....the drive ad all it’s files can be accessed as if on a pc......MAGIC? By the way, I don’t think it works with the smaller iPads, but it might be worth checking first. I will report progress in due course... FUJI
  12. I use Nik Efex on my Windows 10 pc.... I have pre-ordered the very new....PIXELMATOR PRO.....for my iPad Pro....I’m hoping it lives up to all the hype.... FUJI

An amazing shot John......a well deserved win......Congratulations. FUJI
  14. WOW! WOW! And thrice WOW! Thank you everyone..... ...it makes all of my efforts seem worthwhile..... I have asked Geoff to set up the theme for the next comp. I will take a back seat for a while.....to get my breath back. FUJI
  15. What a wonderful surprise......thank you all. FUJI
  16. Hi, If they fit your camera, I can highly recommend any if the...Panasonic-Leica lenses....a glance at my recent posts should confirm my thinking. They aren’t exactly cheap, but I acquired both of mine fir just over half price via eBay from trusted sellers. FUJI

Very well done Brian..... A well deserved win. FUJI
  18. My latest Watercolour.... Our granddaughter at full tilt on a borrowed horse..... she, and that horse are fearless..... FUJI
  19. I know that many of you fancy having a go at ...Street Photography..... the genre that I love and practice so much. i found this video to be one of the best......hope you find it useful and motivating too? FUJI https://youtu.be/poV0xw9eyJo
  20. I don’t think that Selfies are killing photography, because those taking the photographs are not...Photographers..... they are the equivalent of the pre-digital...SNAPPERS...just everyday folk using any kind of camera, picture quality, composition or post processing mean nothing to them, so in the main they can be ignored... that isn’t saying that everyone using a phone as a camera can’t be a....Photographer.... who uses it as his/her. camera to hand at the time. What the age of selfies has done is to desensitise a vast number of the general public from really.....SEEING....a Photograph or any other work of Art.... This is why, we who are....Photographers....using decent cameras, and knowing our stuff should actively attempt to get the younger generations interested. I was more than pleased the other day when a very young lass serving coffee in COSTA told me she was going to do photography at University and had a Darkroom for developing film at home. It’s all very similar, I guess to....me choosing to paint and to draw digitally on my iPad Pro....to .....using my real Watercolour paints and brushes? FUJI
