  1. Thank you everyone for participating and especially Phil for helping set up the tie-breaker. Guess that means I need to choose another theme......
  2. A Monumental Red Gum. Sadly this is a common scene in rural parts of Australia where young people die when their vehicle hits a tree.
  3. Oh dear, so sorry Polly. I just didn't see your image at the bottom. I've added you now. Probably broke a rule doing that, did I?
  4. Thank you everyone. Wondering about my image posted on the front page - seems to have the wrong name.
  5. I'm thrilled to win the weekly challenge with my entry "Boy in Doorway, Vietnam". A first for me. Thank you for the competition.
  6. The theme: the beauty in decay called images that depict the beauty in that which is decrepit, decaying, broken, old, rusty........think the Japanese call it Wabi Sabi.
  7. Thought I'd add an Aussie flavour. Billy Buttons are indigenous wildflowers on the Patho Plains, part of the Murray Darling flood plains. They have very compact solid flower heads. As kids we used them to hit each other on the head.
  8. Im intrigued how you created the soft focus of this one: outside petals look translucent sort of.
  9. Congratulations Clicker. A dynamic image. Seems people call you Polly? So clicker is not your name?

    Lemon Scented Gum Tree

This tree is a large lemon scented gum in Eaglehawk, Victoria, Australia. Taken at night using a tripod and longish exposure.

  14. Welcome Pat! I'm a new member also and from Australia. Brian introduced me to TIPF. Glad you decided to pick that camera back up.
  15. Congratulations, Brian! A triptich is a lovely way of presenting your orchid photos.
  16. Hi TIPF people, I started taking photos as a kid when I was given a Kodak Instamatic for Xmas. Since then, many cameras...... A few years back I had the privilege of studying photojournalism at tertiary level. Despite the fact that digital photography was already dominating film, I was only interested in black and white film photography. I invested in Hasselblad gear and converted my bathroom into a darkroom. When I finally succumbed to digital photography I embraced its convenience and instant feedback that makes learning so much quicker. Earlier this year I bought my first long telephoto lens and now indulge my passion for nature photography especially birds. I'm trying to learn Photoshop. Not surprisingly the first tool I learnt was burning and dodging.
