    POTW w/e 4/5/14

    I agree with that
  2. Well done Colin Image N01 pleases me.
  3. I confess to not commenting on a lot of peoples images, except if it pleases me, then I say so or leave a 'like this' notification. There are far too many posts per day to comment on, I dont know how the people who choose the POTW can possibly keep up with it all! John, I enjoy your landscapes and scenes, do post 'em up now and again, and yes the bug season is well upon us As you say, it's not everyones cup of tea but it is that time of year!
  4. I still have my old Sony Cybershot Fuji, only it is a 2 megapixel version, All it needs are batteries and I think it will still work. I shall get around to trying it!
  5. Just a PC Fuji, the only tablets I know about are the ones for my heart Thanks for the pointers everyone.
  6. I would like to lift an image from a pdf file, any tips?? This is for a 'then & now shot' and would like to be able to copy a certain image for my own use.

    PAY SLIP

I left school aged 15 in 1969, The same year that I first saw the Rolling Stones at the Hyde Park concert. I was an apprentice Butcher for Dewhursts and earned £5.00 a week, Worked the ashphalt gang from 18 to 21 when I earned £100 a week driving a 16 ton tipper lorry on a car licence, it was classed as 'plant'. Took my HGV class 1 at 21 and the earning shot up, I was doing two Germany trips a week running bent as a nine bob bit.... but earning £500 per week! Happy days
  8. That is really good, well done!
  9. Blimey, poor old Dad, probably worked hard all of his life and wanted money out of his house to live a little or get by. My heart bleeds for you. I would have given my right arm to have had my old Dad around for a few more years, he never left a penny...he never had any in the first place. I'm really sorry for my blunt reply, but your post smacks of 'poor poor me, dad didnt leave me enough.
  10. Thanks Martyn, I knew I had read about it somewhere, will give it a try later.
  11. For some reason I cannot seem to follow the old rules for uploading to this site from my flickr account. Nothing works as it used too, is there a new way of using flickr or am I being dumb?
  12. And that is probably what I shall go with when the new computer is built, but the first thing will be an idiots guide to elements and lightroom..... if such a book exists!
  13. Renting software?? Cant you just buy both?...or is it too expensive?
  14. Hence choosing 7 over 8.1 Kate, I thought vista was supposed to be bad enough
  15. When windows 98 support ended there was a team of boffins who got together to release what they called 'engineers updates'. These updates fixed all the bugs in 98 that Microsoft didnt. If you knew where to look for them you could download and install them. I ran windows 98 on an old machine up until six years ago, it ran fine Maybe the same will happen for XP, So my old hard drive with the XP OS on it will remain in the desk.
  16. You will not be alone Colin, many are still using it, and will continue to do so. Apparently, most bank cashpoints are XP dependent!
  17. Yes, it was a good friend. For me it was utterly reliable. It never had a crash or died on me. Did everything quick and efficiently. Some may think it was, along with its siblings, the devils spawn. For me, in the last thirteen years on two home built computers it was great. Goodbye Windows XP..sniff, I shall honestly miss you! I have just ordered in all of the components to build my new computer. A new OS as well but Windows 7 and not 8.1 This old girl will soldier on for about ten days, then stripped and sold off in parts on fleabay. One good thing is that I could technically run Lightroom...If i can ever figure it out!
  18. Denis

    Wonders why

I cannot use photoshop or gimp, I really do not understand the terminology of those programs. Lightroom wont run on my current computer even if I did know how to use it!. All I can do is shoot in RAW, and thanks to some advice from ColinB, am now using the editing available in ViewNX. This is the software that came with my Nikon. This 'does' for me, I have no intention of showing, selling or showcasing the images I take, they are purely for my own benefit. If I do take a half decent image, then this is the only place it appears! What you have done with the wasp photo is really good, a big step up from the original.
  19. No sound for me, either that or I have gone deaf!
  20. Mine is still the same Martyn, nothing has changed for me..I'm glad to say!
