Spotted this one, stuck in a spider web, so I 'removed' him to a safer place. Think he's a Eucalyptus Shield Bug, and, as I understand it, they darken with age, so this one is pretty new.:

Managed a couple of him looking at me:

Thanks again, all. I had just looked at Annie's 'brush up' picture and almost reneged on posting these. Not perfect, I know. He was on the move, and for Nos. 2&3 I had to hold the stick he was on in one hand, and the camera in the other, so I was quite pleased with the result.

Annie don't know why they have those little red dots. Maybe it's just 'warning colour' to deflect interest from the eyes.

Paul, this is the only one of this type I have seen. We still have dozens of the little Stink Bugs - everywhere!!

Good one Brian - Jaws fits him well!!!

Oh wow, what a beauty...lovely pictures. I love these bugs with their two ruby stones above their eyes....what are they?

The ruby stones are simple eyes "ocelli" as opposed to the larger compound eyes and according to a textbook I just happened to have lying around, the compound eye is very sensitive to movement while the simple eye is more sensitive to low light and changes in light intensity.
