Son and partner

I dont usually photograph people as I never really do them justice, most of you here really do produce cracking portraits. I took this of my son and his partner but both turned their noses up at it when I showed them.

Is it that bad? we like it, it seems natural, and I have printed it off and hung it...they dont...why?

one reason could be that people dont like photos of there selves, is the fact that we see ourselves mainly in a mirror. As a face is not symetrical an image dosnt sit well with the perception we have in our minds as to what we look like

Many clever photographers, in the film days, when working on a commision of a person reversed the negative so the person that commisioned the print was happy while everyone else thought it didnt capture the subject

I think it's lovely of them. Their skin tones and hair are perfect and I really like the way that they are sitting..

Would have been nicer with a less cluttered background, but you can't really choose that when it it's shot on spec.
Most of my people shots end up with a bit of stuff in the background when I just want something natural.
If they don't like it, then it's a shame as you are proud enough to hang it.

Family is important and you are showing this through your photograph of your son and his partner.
Perhaps they would  pose for you against a plain wall or something similar so you can have a more formal one to show them as well.

The pint pot does it no justice as a keep imo. The young lady is looking happily at her partner, but he is caught having a beer. Party stuff. That's probably the reason for not liking it much. Sorry if that sounds harsh Denis.

Robin,

I do see what you mean, as a snap great. but there is always something..... stiff  about a couple posing for a pic. I did think it was relaxed.

Paul,

I took that on board too, which also in a way repeats what Robin mentioned :)

Chris & annie,

You both make a good point about her smile, it was that which caused me to take the photo, I ought to clone my son out lol!

she does convey her feelings with her expressions, she thinks the world of my Son :)

I think it's a great candid shot.  If you don't mind me suggesting:  I would select the yellow awning and the green shrub and desaturate them, so that they don't grab your eye so much.  Nonetheless, it's a great informal picture, capturing a relaxed moment.

I agree - the yellow awning in particular, is a distraction.
