But it wasn’t Rye  Phew ...  it can be mistaken for that sometimes .   This was only 20 Inches high, didn’t have blotchy purple patches on the stems and not at all hairy  ... I would have kept a mile away from giant hogweed as it can seriously burn skin to the point where skin grafts can be required ....  

I have that book too Cheryl .... I agree... it was a best seller years and years ago .... in fact some  of the illustrations  were used in a famous make  of bed linen  .

Yes, they often put signs up warning about Giant Hogweed, telling people not to touch them. Cow Parsley is great for attracting pollinators like bees, wasps and hoverflies.
