By the way..what is that at the top of the field, looks like a mini pylon with a red light on top???/

 

Left of shot is the River Ouse (I'm stood on the bank), it's a shipping beacon.

 

I wanted the stile in shot but the light was changing by the second and had little time to think about composition. Looking back now I could have stood back so it wasn't quite so dominant.

I think it is totally wonderful....

 

 

we have several stiles that just stand for no reason, they must have been part of a fence at some point. there is even a gate in the woods just standing, attached to nothing, I always have to go through it!

Although I am old enough to remember (just) it is many years since cattle grazed on the river bank. The step and the fence to the sides have long since gone but the stile itself remains.

 

Thanks everyone, I really didn't expect all the positive comments, I wish I'd taken more time over the processing now. 

I may well come to regret this but this is the original untouched RAW image, just resized for the web.
