My first ACR RAW

Recommended Posts

Not a very exciting picture! But this week I upgraded from OS X Snow Leopard to Mavericks, and one of the first things I've done is downloading and installing ACR for Photoshop CS6. At last my camera's RAW files are recognised and I can process them using software I actually understand. This picture is about 2 years old but its RAW file has been sitting around doing nothing. I have done a fair amount using Vibrance/Clarity/Shadows/Sharpness/colours sliders, but hopefully you can't tell...

(It looks in dire need of more saturation but if you look at it full size you will see the proper stuff).

Wow   You will be  pretty pleased with your new found ability to  have your RAW files recognised in CS 6 ... I had no idea that  you'd been " handicapped  " to that extent  Chris .. I can't imagine  not being able to use my RAW fIles with my software .... It must feel like a  new lease of life for some of your images ..Looking forward to seeing the results more ..... This one   looks very good .....almost a  3 dimesional effect .

When I changed to raw I had the same trouble PS it didnt recognise them but I downloaded adobe DNG and changed them into digital negatives

I find this helpful as I can work off the dng and leave the raw alone
Now you can all tell me the downside of working like this is, as my computing skills are next door to zero

One of my reasons for not shooting RAW is the steep learning curve of RawTherapee (which DID recognise my files), but nothing else did. Now that ACR in CS6 does, there will be no stopping me, except I won't be shooting RAW all the time, as the files are biggish!
