I've no idea where they came from, what you can't see in the first image is the cars stopped either side as they crossed the road. In the second image the female is over to the right, scratching about under some bushes in a public garden area. He was keeping an eye on me.

Maybe it is just as simple as that - to get to the other side....

Nice story Ryewolf.. In the first Pic ... that Cockerel  looks a bit like my hubby when  we go to a supermarket ... he walks so fast ... . heading for  the shelf, housing  the only item he wants to buy,  with a dogged determination and focus that says,

" I' ve only come in here for a pint of milk and I will not be persuaded to look at   or purchase anything else  that is not on my list !"

 I can almost hear him crowing ... "And don't think I'm going to wander aimlessly around these aisles buying stuff we neither want nor need !"

Of course  that is unless the wine cooler and beer fridge is empty!
