Corridor and Doorway Penrhyn Castle Bangor

Penrhyn Castle isn't really a castle in the sense of being an ancient monument.  It was built by the Dawkins family in the 1820's as a statement of the wealth they had accumulated from owning sugar plantations in the west indies and the local slate mines.  The display of wealth caused what is still the longest industrial dispute in UK history.  The slate miners went on strike over working conditions for three years.  Not a proud history but there is no oubt that as a piece of architecture, it is a bit of a gem.  Not to everyone's taste but you can't help but appreciate the exterior and interior detail all carved by hand in stone.  This is one of the less spectacular examples but my reason for making this image was to try and use the difference in light balance between the artificial lighting at the end of the corridore and the daylight illuminating the remainder.  I used a fisheye lens which I know isn't to everybody's taste.
