Viking Bowl Maker

I love this simple lathe ... There are a number of places where  these old skills are still taught as a craft ..... Fascinating that  this is all powered by a foot pedal  and a leather strap ...a super set  Rye ... very environmentally friendly ....

Thanks Clicker, what was also interesting was that, unlike a modern lathe where the direction is constant, the cutting tools only work on the downward press of the pedal. The turning tools are based on some found in York from the viking period. One advantage of this type of lathe would be that only the tools and metal parts would need to be transported the rest of the lathe could be constructed later.... The guy said he could make a bowl in 40 minutes.

Love his look of concentration on his task Rye, would be a nice and interesting thing to watch.

Thanks Kobione, he was also giving a commentary as well about the tools and what he was doing.
