International Bomber Command Centre

I visited the IBCC on Saturday as they were having a bit of a 1940's do...

The IBCC Spire Memorial, unveiled October 2015 to an audience of 3600 guests including 312 Bomber veterans - on a very cold wet and windy day! the Spire design is based on the dimensions of the wingspan of the Lancaster Bomber - 102ft high and 16ft at the base.

Sorry no pictures of inside the centre but if you get the chance it is well worth a visit.

I'm not normally a fan of 'con trails' but I did think these suited the scene.

The Main Avenue leading from the Centre to the Spire.

The spire is encircled by walls carrying the names of all 57,871 men and women who gave their lives whilst serving in or supporting Bomber Command. This is the only place in the world where all these losses are memorialised.

Another super set of images.

I like the lonely, respectful feel of shot 1(that sky is superb), but I absolutely love the shot taken inside the spire - very original and creative.

Thanks again Korky, the shadows tend to move with the sun (as they do) looking a bit mis-aligned so you need to be early(ish).

Nice set Colin - looks a very interesting place to visit. Really like the spire against the sky, and, as you mentioned the con trails are a very fitting addition to the subject.

I presume that is a relatives name you have photographed.

A thought provoking set Colin....difficult for me to look at for long without a trace of a tear......the Bomber-Boys, were the bravest of the brave......often overlooked in the past....not now, thank goodness.

Memories....memories ..... tough ones.
