  1. I get lucky sometimes, but on many nights it's a barren landscape... Paul.
  2. Little secret, these were two different spiders on adjacent panels Paul.
  3. I went to have a little night search, and on the recycling bin i spotted a globular springtail, so that was gonna be my photo, but by the time I got the camera sorted it had buggered off. Then I spotted a small movement and thought it was a likely an elongate springtail. To my delight, it wasn't! Paul.
  4. She is, 5hough I think all spiders are, lol... Paul.
  5. I've never seen one before - which considering how large it was (maybe 2mm) you'd think they would be easy to find - but not for me. This one was on my recycling bin tonight... Pseudoscorpions, also known as false scorpions or book scorpions, are small, scorpion-like arachnids belonging to the order Pseudoscorpiones, also known as Pseudoscorpionida or Chelonethida. Paul.
  6. On the garden fence tonight - Zygiella x-notata: Paul.
  7. Thanks for sharing Geoff, a fond memory for us all. Paul.
  8. Thank you Monkey and Fogey Paul.
  9. Thank you Geoff - wasps make great subjects (ask Billy - he's got some good ones too). Thaks too Polly. Paul.
  10. Nice little selection - good timing for the great tit in flight. Paul.
  11. +1 on the marsh fly Billy - Tetanocera sp. Paul.
  12. Looks nice - all those stars... Must be another life-form out there somewhere... Paul.

    New

And a welcome form me too. Paul.
  14. Sorry Geoff. I know the pain of this too from our previous pets. Always hard. Paul.
  15. Thanks Polly Enya's soundtracks are wonderful for cinematic videos - just the right pace for the scenes. The horses were lovely to be with - they featured in most parts of the movie so I figured they deserved their own moment at the end. Paul.
  16. Thanks Geoff. Arnside is a lovely seaside visit, especially when the tidal bore is due, though this tower is a couple of miles away. Paul.
  17. Arnside Tower, Historical Ruin Situated about a mile and a half outside of Arnside, and to the South East of Arnside Knott, Arnside tower is a spectacular and almost unique example of a Cumbrian pele tower. The oldest building in the parish, the tower was built in the late 14 or early 15th century. These fortified homes were not built as castles or fortified as strongly but were built as towering homes that could help protect the area from Scottish raiders. Arnside Tower stands astride a natural limestone knoll, with the sea protecting it on one side and marshes on the other. The main entrance was through a pointed arch on the north-east side and this gave access to the central staircase. A smaller entrance was constructed later on the south-east side and there was a second staircase in the south corner. In 1815, Arnside Tower was sold to Daniel Wilson of Dallam Tower and the tower has been owned by the family that reside there ever since. In 1884, a great storm hit the coast, with devastating effect. The south-west side collapsed along with the central partition wall. The tower has remained in this ruined state to this day. Music by Enya: The Loxian Gate. Paul.
  18. THanks Martyn - you can still go up the steeple on given days - the church does organise it, usually on a Saturday. I'm guessing that Pendle Hill is clear in the distance on this video Geoff? Paul.
  19. Cheers Geoff, must be a few bugs in your woods now... Paul.
  20. St Walburge’s was designed by the architect Joseph Hansom and completed in 1854. At a towering 309 ft, it is the tallest of any parish church in England. This spectacular spire is also the third tallest in the UK, giving you breathtaking views over the city. is a major, unique attraction for visitors who can climb the 173 spiral steps to obtain a magnificent 360 degree view over Preston city and westwards to Blackpool and the Irish Sea coast. St Walburge's is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building. The rose window is a beautifully-coloured circular window, 22 feet in diameter. The colour of the spire contrasts to that of the main body of the church because it’s made of a different stone- a limestone full of fossils. The Medieval leper hospital of St Mary Magdalene once stood here. Music: Enya - So I Could Find My Way. Paul.
  21. Thanks Colin - I did of course exercise extreme caution... Paul.
